Miles Teller: His best performances so far

18 August 2016 3:48 AM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

One of my favorite young actors, Miles Teller has been gaining steam as emerging A-lister over the last couple of years. This week, Teller is getting the same treatment that fellow near A-lister Jonah Hill got from me a few days ago from yours truly, in honor of their upcoming film War Dogs. Teller is very good in the film, as he pretty much always is, and even if it probably won’t launch his star any higher, it’s another interesting role in his quickly growing oeuvre. He deserves the attention, that’s for sure, so we’ll be showering him with it a bit more today… Once again for those of you who are curious, War Dogs is dramedy about two young men who became unlikely gun runners. It’s based on the true story of David Packouz (Teller) and Efraim Diveroli (Hill), who inexplicably won a $300 million »

The Legend of Tarzan and Free State of Jones movies review: enough with the white saviors

1 August 2016 8:53 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

Filtering other people’s stories through the eyes of white men is tedious and offensive, and it feels like a desperate hedge against fresh perspectives. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

It’s a problem lately with lots of Hollywood movies… and some not-Hollywood movies, too. The same sorts of stories — often literally the same stories, as with reboots and remakes — are getting told over and over again, and with little apparent notion that what is required is a good reason to tell those same stories again. And here we go again.

To say that tales of Tarzan have been told before is an almost absurd understatement: he has been a mainstay of cinema since the silent era. And while The Legend of Tarzan is only very loosely based on the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, »

‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Winner Charged With Domestic Violence

14 July 2016 12:57 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Joshua Allen, the winner of “So You Think You Can Dance” season 4, has been charged with domestic abuse and could face over a decade in state prison, the L.A. County D.A. said on Thursday.

Allen potentially faces two felony counts of willfully injuring his girlfriend after a prior conviction and one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, a glass vase.

According to the authorities, Allen was convicted of injuring his girlfriend in January, and was issued a criminal protective order that kept him from communicating with her.

The prosecutors allege that Allen assaulted and strangled the same woman a few months later, on April 13, and attacked her again on June 19.

The woman allegedly ran to a coffee shop to escape, and Allen threw a glass vase at another woman who was trying to help the victim. Prosecutors added that Allen also attacked a man and vandalized the coffee shop.

Let’s Do the Time Warp Again: Teaser for Rocky Horror Picture Show Arrives

18 May 2016 7:50 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Dust off those fishnet stockings, there’s a new Rocky Horror Picture Show on the way…

Can you believe it’s been over forty years since The Rocky Horror Picture Show first arrived in cinemas? The film / stage show has become a massive cult hit and still manages to sell-out both cinema screens and theatre halls. The film starred Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O’Brien, Meatloaf and Tim Curry and followed a young girl and her boyfriend as  they pay a call to the peculiar residence of Dr. Frank-n-Furter after breaking down.  With its zany fashion and catchy tunes the film had seeped its way into popular culture and there’s barely a wedding reception out there  that doesn’t play The Time Warp at least once.

Given the longevity of the film it’s a little surprising that anyone would want to touch it. But it seems that »

Grease: Live – watch it with us - as it happened

31 January 2016 7:03 PM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

We’ve got chills, and they’re multiplyin’ ... probably because the TV musical Grease: Live is on and we’re live-blogging it. Please join us on the couch for some hand-jiving, bomber jackets and those famous tunes

3.03am GMT

What a triumph. After three years of watching NBC do summer stock on national television, Fox swooped in and stole the live musical format right out from underneath them.

The sets and staging were absolutely the best part of the show, proving that a live musical could look as much like a movie as it could just a regular Broadway musical. All of that credit goes to director Mark Plait.

2.55am GMT

So it concludes with the whole cast driving off the set in golf carts and into a fairground, where they continue to perform We Go Together. It’s delightful.

2.54am GMT

This is just how we wanted Grease: Live to end. »
