Warning: Spoilers
I always look forward to both the BAFTA television and film awards, but the film awards are definitely my favourite ceremony, especially if I have seen the films nominated, so I can hope certain ones win. Hosted by Jonathan Ross, with voice overs by Claudia Winkleman, 2008 saw some great films nominated and winning the famous golden mask award, in all the categories: Best Film, Best British Film, Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Music, Best Animated Film, the Fellowship award, Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editing, Best Film not in the English Language, Best Makeup & Hair, Best Production Design, Best Rising Star, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Short Film and Best Short Animation. Films nominated and winning in this year included: American Gangster, Atonement, Away From Her, The Bourne Ultimatum, Brick Lane, Charlie Wilson's War, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Eastern Promises, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Golden Compass, Hairspray, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I'm Not There, Juno, The Kite Runner, The Lives of Others, Michael Clayton, No Country for Old Men, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Ratatouille, Shrek the Third, The Simpsons Movie, Spider-Man 3, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, There Will Be Blood, This Is England and La Vie En Rose. It also included a tribute to all the filmmakers and stars who had passed away in the last year, including Michelangelo Antonioni, Ingmar Bergman, Deborah Kerr, Lois Maxwell, Brad Renfro, Jane Wyman and Heath Ledger. Stars seen at the ceremony, and nominated or winning, included Lord Sir Richard Attenborough, Javier Bardem, Orlando Bloom, Emily Blunt, Marion Cotillard, Alfonso Cuarón, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ricky Gervais, Jeff Goldblum, Cuba Gooding Jr., Eva Green, Naomie Harris, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Kate Hudson, Harvey Keitel, Hugh Laurie, Sir Ian McKellen, Thandie Newton, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Radcliffe, Mickey Rourke, Kevin Spacey, Sylvester Stallone and Kate Winslet. Very good!
