A woman's victory over male chauvinism.
raneileshwar7 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
A woman fighting back a powerful politician who has raped her. A woman's victory over male chauvinism. Purush - meaning male is a film adapted from a classic Marathi play of the same tile, Purush. Written by an acclaimed playwright Jaywant Dalvi. It's a hard hitting subject and needed a better filmmaker like Raj Kumar Santoshi to direct a subject of this caliber. Ashwini Bhave as the victim is competent and vulnerable. Om Puri as the acerbic politician is as brilliant as ever. The film falters in pace and production values. But Purush still remains an engaging fare. The courtroom scenes are the movie's highlights film to watch. The cinematography by Rajen Kothari is very good. The film got a very limited theatre release and not many people got to see this film, but if ever a satellite channel air's it, do catch it. It's better than some mindless drivel churned out in the name of "100 crore".
