The entire film was shot on the same dead end street in the lower east end of downtown Toronto. Producer Anthony F. Grani's house can be seen in the exterior footage.

The film was originally titled "The Policeman Rings Thrice", and then "Mrs. and Mrs. Robinson" but was changed for similarities to The Graduate (1967). While walking through his kitchen one morning LaLonde noticed his Moosewood cookbook and the name made him giggle.
