October is here, and everyone is crazy busy. Especially genre favorite John Skipp, who has a boatload of things on his plate, all of which we have served up for you right here, fresh and hot!

From the Press Release

As usual, October’s a busy month for hard-working horror legend John Skipp: not just as a novelist, but as a boundary-challenging book editor and filmmaker as well.

First up is Demons: Encounters With the Devil and His Minions, Fallen Angels, and the Possessed. This 640-page mammoth anthology features work ranging from Poe and Lovecraft to Neil Gaiman, Kim Harrison and William Peter Blatty. It’s a wild mix of classic and original tales, from sweet, subtle and funny to ferociously hardcore.

Demons is the third collection Skipp has edited for Black Dog and Leventhal (Zombies: Encounters With the Hungry Dead and Werewolves and Shapeshifters: Encounters With the Beast »

Hello Nurse!

Pray you have health insurance, 'cause Katrina Bowden has joined the cast of the new horror film, "Nurse 3D," according to Deadline.

The "30 Rock" beauty joins "Boardwalk Empire" star and barroom brawler Paz de la Huerta for the hardcore revenge tale about sexy nurses who lure unfaithful men to their violent demise.

The film has been enjoying some early buzz in horror circles thanks to de la Huerta posing nude for the poster (Warning: Nsfw!).

Katrina Bowden is on a role with this whole 3D horror movie thing, as she'll soon be seen exploring dangerous waters in "Piranha 3Dd" (remember, that's pronounced "Three-Double-Dee"), opening Nov. 23.

She'll be seen in merely two dimensions next April as Oz's trophy girlfriend in "American Reunion," the fourth (official) installment in the "American Pie" series.

Meanwhile, production on "Nurse 3D" begins later this month with a look toward a release date sometime in »

DVD Playhouse—April 2011

By

Allen Gardner

Hereafter (Warner Bros.) Clint Eastwood’s spiritual thriller follows a trio of characters whose seemingly disparate paths converge: Matt Damon as a blue collar Joe who tries to fight against his psychic powers that see “the other side,” Cecile de France as a journalist who somehow survives the tsunami that crushed Indonesia, and a London schoolboy (Frankie and George McLaren) who seeks answers after losing his twin brother. Like all of Eastwood’s films, the narrative construction is tight as a drum, with solid work by all involved. That said, “solid” would have to be the operative word to describe the proceedings here, as well as “unremarkable” and “uninvolving” on an emotional level. Perhaps we expect too much when we see Clint’s name on a film these days, but that’s the flip side of being one of the best. Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. »
