With Derek Reese severely injured, John calls on Sarah's former fiancé Charlie Dixon, an EMT, to provide medical assistance. Sarah finds herself having to explain where she has been for the last 8 years and just who Derek is and where he is from. In flashbacks (of a sort) we learn of Derek's life in the future as a resistance fighter, his relationship with John Connor, and of his travel back in time with a team sent to help Sarah and John. Derek doesn't know that his brother Kyle is John's father. Written by

When Derek Reese requires a blood transfusion to survive, Cameron reveals that Sarah Connor is the universal donor, type O Rh negative. They are going to need more blood than Sarah can provide, but Derek has a rare blood type, type AB Rh negative. John requests to be tested, and turns out to be a match, supposedly due to his father having the same rare blood type. This is a biological impossibility, as blood types are determined by mixed dominance, independently assorting alleles. Sarah, as O Rh Neg has the genotype OO. If John's father was AB Rh Neg, then he must have had the genotype AB. John could only be genotype AO or BO, because he must get one allele from each parent. This would give him either type A Rh neg or B Rh neg blood. See more
On the night we first met, John's father, Kyle Reese, told me words I remember to this day. He meant them as a warning. I think of them as words to live by. He told me of an apocalypse yet to come. Like a Pandora's box, he unpacked every horror, every evil, every dark thing that haunts our future. He also left me an unborn son, to whom he bequeathed what remained in the box after the nightmares fled: hope.
