Fox Upfront Will Introduce Demi Lovato And Britney Spears As New ‘X Factor’ Judges

14 May 2012 8:50 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Exclusive: We’ve learned that singer/songwriter/actress Demi Lovato‘s deal was done late last night. So Fox will introduce her and already locked-in Britney Spears as its new judges for Simon Cowell’s fall talent show The X Factor at today’s upfront in NYC. Unlike last year when the network went along with Cowell’s low-profile judges’ choices (after chaotic early months of on-again/off-again choices), this fall the show is stressing its celebrity quotient in an unabashed bid to grab younger demographics. Both Lovato and Spears received their starts as cogs in the wheel of the Disney star machine, with Lovato a star of the Disney Channel series Sunny With A Chance and in the Camp Rock movies. Spears was first to close her deal in April to join Cowell on the judging panel in Season 2 following a month of talks. Deadlline was first to report »

"A lot of girls that are young are insecure and they look to the media to see what she should look like. The film and TV industry should take more responsibility." When asked what advice she would give young girls that look up to her, she explained: "As much as it hurts to be bullied, always rise above it, vocalise what's going on. (more »

Nick Jonas Breaks Down His Dream To Write A Broadway Show

15 March 2012 12:38 PM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

Nick Jonas is no newbie when it comes to starring in Broadway shows and big, splashy musicals. He’s already got quite the resume for a 19-year-old.

Currently he stars as the lead in “How To Succeed In Broadway Without Really Trying,” but this is not Nick’s first rodeo. Previously, he appeared in “Les Miserables” (Twice! Once in NYC and again in London), “Hairspray,” "A Christmas Carol," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Annie Get Your Gun."

Additionally, his musical theater chops have been tested on the small screen in two uber-successful “Camp Rock” flicks and a two-time role on the NBC musical drama “Smash.”

With all that experience to draw from, Nick recently told MTV News that he wouldn’t mind, perhaps, working on his own musical. He explained, “I’ve had a couple ideas as to what that could be, but I feel like that’ll be sort of a life project, »

On Tuesday night, MTV premiered "Demi Lovato: Stay Strong," their documentary about Demi Lovato's return to the road about a year after she left her "Camp Rock" tour with the Jonas Brothers to seek treatment for addiction, eating disorders, and self-harm issues. In the Disney days, Lovato says, she hated the spotlight.

"Everyone kind of just made me a role model and I hated that. I was partying, I was self-medicating. I was like, why would you want your kids to be like me?" she says. "I felt like I was living a lie. I was dealing with all this pain emotionally and I felt guilt and shame. I decided to take it out on myself. I harmed myself. It was my way of taking my own shame and my own guilt out on myself. I was just depressed."
