An Ode to Camp Rock-Era Joe Jonas, the Ultimate Teen Heartthrob of the Late 2000s

20 June 2016 11:35 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Eight years ago today, the Jonas Brothers truly exploded onto the scene with the iconic Disney Channel original movie Camp Rock. It taught us important life lessons such as "sing your heart out, especially if you sound like Demi Lovato" and "Kevin Jonas should never straighten his hair ever again." But one of the most important things it did was solidify the world's crush on Joe Jonas, the middle bro of the boyband. He's basically the star of Camp Rock, and he quickly became the ultimate late 2000s teen heartthrob. An alternative to lusting after a High School Musical-era Zac Efron, if you will. In honor of Camp Rock turning eight years old, we wanted to honor the era of Joe Jonas: Dream »

30 years ago today: ‘Karate Kid II’ showed us the Glory of Love

20 June 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

30 years ago today, audiences were treated again to the utterly watchable pair of Daniel and Mr. Miyagi. The Karate Kid, Part II opened in theaters on June 20, 1986. In the sequel, released two years after the original film, Daniel’s wax on, wax off early training days are behind him, and he’s impressively slicing through six blocks of ice. The boy and his mentor travel together to Mr. Miyagi’s home village in Okinawa, Japan. Sparks fly between Daniel and Kumiko, the niece of Mr. Miyagi’s childhood girlfriend, to the synthesizer-tastic tune of “Glory of Love” by Peter Cetera. The song hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 later that summer and got an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. Other notable June 20 happenings in pop culture history: • 1948: The Ed Sullivan Show — then titled Toast of the Town — premiered on CBS. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis performed in that first episode, »

Berlinale ’16: Goat review

18 February 2016 2:48 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Goat review: Nick Jonas delivers a breakthrough performance as the brother of a wannabee frat member in this intense drama from Andrew Neel.

Goat review by Paul Heath at the Berlin Film Festival, 2016. Making his feature film debut with Goat, if we don’t include Camp Rock, which was technically a TV movie, and the still-to-be-released Careful What You Wish For, is Nick Jonas, the former Disney and pop superstar who is quietly carving himself out a niche in quality indie.

Goat is also the fictional feature debut for co-writer and director Andrew Neel, who adapts the material from Brad Land‘s real-life memoir. The story starts at a party, where hoards of teenagers are making out, causing a riot and getting blind drunk. When the cocaine comes out, Brad Land (Ben Schnetzer) decides to call it a night, leaving his older brother Brett (Jonas) to continue to party. Upon leaving, »
