The name Sultan Khan is fairly well known, at least in chess circles. The name of another Indian genius of the early Twentieth Century, less so. Srinivasa Ramanujan died nine years before Sultan Khan won the first of his three British Chess Championships. Unlike his countryman who although retiring early lived to a reasonable age, Ramanujan was only thirty-two when he succumbed to illness, but his work lives on.
