A spin off that works
studioAT24 June 2015
While Simon Cowell has had to go all round the houses trying to find the right formula and host for the Xtra Factor he hit gold first time round with Britain's Got More Talent. And that is largely down to its host Stephen Mulhern.

Mulhern quite frankly makes the show. Not only does he do a good job but he knowingly pokes fun at the ridiculousness of the show and the judges. People seem to love the amateurish nature of the set and production and that is because he has the charm to pull it off.

When you enjoy the spin off programme as much as the main one then it must be doing something right, and Mulhern certainly is.

Britain's Got More Talent

Warning: Spoilers
I am not always a big fan of spin-off shows, just look at Joey and Angel for example, but when it concerns a great entertainment/talent show, I'm up for it. Presented by Stephen Mulhern, this spin-off of Britain's Got Talent, the show that scours the country for the newest talent to appear on the Royal Variety Performance, gives us the extra stuff. So during the audition and live show process we get to see both more contestants, and behind the scenes stuff. It is interesting to see how main show presenters Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, and the judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, with temporary guest judges Kelly Brook and Louis Walsh, interact back stage. The show is also complete with some silly little games with the main show people, jokes involving the show and contestants, and some celebrity guest appearances. These guests include Big Brother's Shabnam Paryani (auditioning), Holly Willoughby, Chesney Hawkes, Kym Marsh, Patrick McGuinness, Andi Peters, Claire Sweeney, Adrian Edmondson, Scott Mills, Christopher Biggins, George Lamb, Daniel Merriweather, Lionel Blair, Kenzie, Jordin Sparks, Jerry Springer, Mutya Buena, Todd Carty, Antony Cotton, Jenni Falconer, Robin Gibb, Lulu, Ben Shephard, Harry Hill and many more. Worth watching!

A good and funny backstage insight, but can sometimes get tiresome and annoying
liamdavies-8636312 August 2021
Whilst this spin-off show of Britain's Got Talent provides some additional acts and unseen footage, it's biggest downfall are the long, and sometimes repetitive interviews with Stephen Mulhern. The occasions in which this happens normally involve the contestant trying to explain something, but getting a part of it wrong and being told by the host to start again. This can repeat many times. It does get repetitive and tiresome, but at least Stephen shows that feeling as well. Overall, this is a decent programme which provides insight and laughs alongside the main programme, although it sometimes gets annoying.

The best way to ease that post-BGT feeling of shame
adamstuartcox2 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I love Britain's Got Talent, but I've always struggled with the deep sense of shame I feel after spending an hour of my Saturday evening watching a quartet of millionaires belittle and humiliate the disadvantaged. I always used to attempt to drown this self-loathing with hard liquor and prescription painkillers, but not anymore! Britain's Got More talent means that, instead, I can simply switch to ITV2 and spend another hour seeing my fellow human beings being torn to shreds in front of a baying crowd! BGMT's enjoyment factor is increased by the fact that none of the acts featured on it ever make it to the finals - meaning that even if the judges say "yes", you can still feel the warm satisfaction of knowing that their dreams are going to die soon anyway.

As much as I love this programme, there are a few improvements I'd like to see implemented in future series:

  • The emotional injuries suffered by the contestants are hugely enjoyable, but I think it would be even more comical if they were to suffer physical injuries too. Perhaps the judges and crowd should be supplied with sharp objects to throw. Or, instead of merely shouting "OFF! OFF! OFF!" at unpopular acts, the crowd should be allowed to storm the stage and beat the contestant into unconsciousness.

  • More children! BGT has been groundbreaking in it's brave attempts to humiliate all kinds of people, regardless of their age or mental handicaps, but by far the most hilarious victims are children. In future, at least three pre-teens should be reduced to floods of tears every episode (at present there's usually only one or two).

  • Follow-ups! I would get more pleasure from these public humiliations if I were able to see the ongoing psychological damage that the victims suffer. There should be a third show (Britain's Got Even More Talent), in which those who are claxoned off stage are followed around by a camera crew - then we could witness them being mocked in the street, sneered at by their co-workers, and sobbing quietly and uncontrollably as they remember their ordeal.

They don't have a negative star rating option
funniestvidtv14 April 2019
I made this IMDB account specifically because I was so disappointed at watching, for the first time, Britain's Got MORE Talent. Horrific! I expected "MORE Talent". What I got was a few mediocre acts and a lot of silly nonsense by Steven Mulhern. The person who approved broadcasting this program needs to be fired.

Stephen Mulhern Makes the Show
whytejamaican29 June 2010
I absolutely LOVE Stephen Mulhern. He's funny, he's handsome and he adds such flavor to the show. I've doubled-over laughing watching some of those episodes when Stephen really jumps in and corresponds with the contestants. It seems more like he's actually enjoying himself, rather than "another day on the job." It's hard to find a good sincere TV host that doesn't have their nose up in the air and an obnoxious attitude, but Stephen is IT.

I actually prefer Britain's Got MORE Talent to Britain's Got Talent (with Ant and Dec) and I believe that Stephen comes across more laid-back and fun than them.

Keep it up, Stephen!

Chaos encapsulated, laughter inescapable
im_me-josh_b21 April 2019
I have never enjoyed Britain's Got Talent, I believe that everyone is talented in some form but some people get through on their sad stories instead, which I understand makes great TV but can be deceptive because people then want to vote for their favorite person, not necessarily the best act.

Britain's Got More Talent is the polar opposite of BGT and that's why it works. It highlights the lesser acts who won't get the attention and strips back the stories, showing real people and those real people are often not the brightest bulbs meaning that they are easy to laugh at and Stephen Mulhern, lovingly poking fun at them but joining in and making a fool of himself as well just makes for belly laughs from the start of the show until the end.

On top of the acts, it also involves the judges and the presenters of the main BGT show, also showing what work goes in to the back ground and how they pass the time with ridiculous games and friendly verbal jabs at each other.

I will certainly tune in from now on, and the team at BGMT should be proud of this ridiculous, joyous, celebration of humans of all forms, with the main characters equally willing to be silly and have fun which is what it should all be about. Bravo!
