Another Great Franco Featurette

Mansion Jess Built, The (2006)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

The great Euro boom on DVD gave us some great films finally released uncut. Jess Franco was certainly the greatest benefactor of this boom because dozens of his films were finally given an official release and most of them featured interviews with the director, which quite often were better than the films themselves. This is one example as MANSION OF THE LIVING DEAD, the unofficial fifth "Blind Dead" movie, is a pretty poor film but this interview is well worth watching.

Franco starts off by saying he isn't impressed with the work of George Romero and then he moves onto why he hates zombie movies. Other topics include why he changed his name so many times, the shooting locations of the film and his opinions on the original Blind Dead movie and what he wanted to do with MANSION. As usual Franco is full of energy and tells a great number of interesting stories. I must say that I found his comments on Romero to be crazy and especially considering how poor his own dead movies have turned out (check out OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES). Lina Romay is also on hand and talks about how she always got along with co-stars and she also talks about why she decided to change her name in many of these pictures from the 80s.
