Channing Tatum May Return For G.I. Joe 3, New Characters Will Appear

16 December 2013 2:49 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Although G.I. Joe: Retaliation had a particularly troubled production period, including an eleventh-hour delay that pushed it back by almost a year for conversion to 3D, the gargantuan success with which it was greeted (the film grossed over $375 million worldwide) has been more than enough to convince Paramount that pressing forward with G.I. Joe 3 is a smart decision.

Speaking with MTV, G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu, who is staying on board to helm the third film, offered a few teasers as to what fans can expect to see in the follow-up. Most intriguing were his comments about how the fantastical structure of the G.I. Joe universe renders death a little less than permanent for many characters:

You never know, Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. »

Channing Tatum May Return Along with Several New Characters in G.I. Joe 3

16 December 2013 2:16 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After the action sequel G.I. Joe Retaliation took in over $375 million worldwide earlier this year, we reported in June that Jon M. Chu is coming back to direct G.I. Joe 3, with writer Evan Daugherty (Divergent, Snow White and the Huntsman) signing on to write the script in September. While no cast members have officially been attached yet, Jon M. Chu was asked about the possibility of Channing Tatum returning as Duke, despite his character's death at the hands of Cobra in G.I. Joe Retaliation.

Here's what the director had to say in a cryptic statement.

"You never know. Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who's coming back and who's not."

It should be mentioned that one of the reasons G. »

Christopher Eccleston talks Malekith in Thor: The Dark World, opening everywhere this Friday

(From contributing writer Bo Bory)

With his return in Marvel Studios' Thor: The Dark World, the God of Thunder once again has to save Earth and the Nine Realms by battling the vicious and sinister villain, Malekith, who swears to avenge his race, the Dark Elves, and shroud the universe in darkness for all of eternity. It's a daunting task to be certain...Even for a God, and so for the producers to find someone with enough gravitas and stature to fill the role of the complex, vengeful, hell-bent, and older than time itself villain, Malekith...Kevin Feige and Alan Taylor turned to non-other than screen, TV, and stage veteran, Christopher Eccleston.

Eccleston, of course, is no stranger to the fantasy, sci-fi universe...He was Doctor Who for God's sake! But even though that may be »

I, Frankenstein Gets A Very Underworld-Esque New Poster

1 November 2013 3:34 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

However you spin it, the writing’s on the wall for Lionsgate’s upcoming supernatural action thriller I, Frankenstein. Of course, expectations for the film, adapted from a graphic novel by Underworld writer-producer Kevin Grevioux, were never very high. For one, it’s set for release in the frozen cinematic wasteland of January. Additionally, the film’s first trailer impressed I, Frankenstein‘s visual flair without managing to clarify its convoluted plot or convince me that anything about the film can separate it from similar flicks like Underworld and Van Helsing. Unfortunately, the new poster for I, Frankenstein does little to alleviate my concerns about the film.

From the focus on the film’s CGI creations to star Aaron Eckhart looking out over a Gothic city, everything about this poster screams “Underworld.” And though that series is far from the worst current action franchise out there, it’s certainly not »

Cs Video: Christopher Eccleston on Playing Malekith in Thor: The Dark World

31 October 2013 | Comingsoon.net | See recent Comingsoon.net news »

Stepping in as the big bad for Marvel Studios' second solo Thor film, Christopher Eccleston stars as the Dark Elf Malekith in director Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World . In the film, Malekith leads an army of his people in his quest to control the Ether, a powerful intergalactic force as old as the universe itself and that has the power to return reality to total darkness. ComingSoon.net caught up with Eccleston at the London junket for the November 8 release and, as you can watch in the player below, he discusses his preparation for the role, his eerily quiet take on a blockbuster villain and his seeming tendency to appear in nerd-friendly projects like Thor: The Dark World , G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and "Doctor Who." Also, if you missed them, be sure »

Film Review: ‘Odd Thomas’

20 October 2013 1:36 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Fans of the prolific Dean Koontz are probably accustomed by now to less-than-optimal adaptations of his fiction, so there shouldn’t be too much grumbling about “Odd Thomas,” a would-be franchise launcher drawn from the first of six (to date) novels in the titular series. The grousing so far is more about when fans can see it at all: Writer-director-producer Stephen Sommers’ film has been released in a few offshore territories, but remains hampered by legal disputes between companies involved. In any case, this fantasy-comedy-thriller with Anton Yelchin as a clairvoyant hero is a slick, watchable contraption, but the books’ juggling of tricky tonal and narrative devices translates into a screen result less clever than arbitrary and silly. Lawsuit-clouded status aside, its future looks brightest in home formats.

Yelchin’s Odd is aptly named, as he has certain abilities he needs to keep secret — from everyone save loyal g.f. »

Tom Hiddleston wants to see The Enchantress in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In just over a month's time Tom Hiddleston will make his third appearance as Loki in Marvel's Cinematic Universe as he reunited with Chris Hemworth's God of Thunder for Thor: The Dark World, and while he's already ruled out an appearance in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, it seems all but assured that we won't have seen the last of the fan favourite villain. But will we ever get to see Loki hooking up with The Enchantress? Total Film put the question to Hiddleston himself:

"When I was first reading the comics, the relationship with the Enchantress was one of the really fun things I thought would be good to explore, and may have even pitched it to Kevin Feige at some point. Because she is as sneaky and as untrustworthy as he was. They basically had a really fantastic and twisted relationship until they both say, 'You know what? »

Don Jon Review

26 September 2013 9:24 AM, PDT | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson deliver laughs and sex in funny romantic comedy Don Jon. He sings and dances ((500) Days of Summer). His action skills are impressive (The Dark Knight Rises) and dramatic talents strong (50/50). When the roles demand it Joseph Gordon-Levitt will sport long, Jesus-like hair and dirty briefs (Hesher) or a super villain get up that hides his face completely (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra). Really, the only thing that limits what Gordon-Levitt can do is when a mediocre script lands on his lap (Premium Rush). He takes full responsibility and creative control with his charming, relationship comedy Don Jon (previously called Don Jon’s Addiction), his latest and perhaps most impressive movie. »

The Stephen Sommers adaptation of Den Koontz’s novel Odd Thomas has been in distribution hell since wrapping shooting Two years ago, but now it seems that the film will see the light of day after all. Odd Thomas is the first in a series of supernatural seven books, which are actually all pretty decent, and the film deserves to have an audience see it.  Anton Yelchin, Willem Dafoe and Addison Timlin star.
