Originally aired as a storyline in the Sunset Beach soap opera during the summer of 1998. Ratings were the highest ever for the soap opera so two weeks worth of scenes that were strictly involving the overturned cruise ship were edited together into this one-hour special in an effort to further boost ratings for the main soap opera.
