"They're making a movie about emojis? How is that going to work?" If you thought that when first hearing about Sony's The Emoji Movie, you're not alone. The film's star, T.J. Miller, wondered the same thing when he was first approached to lend his voice to its lead character. After she won an Oscar in 2013, Jennifer Lawrence insisted that nothing had really changed for her, at least as far as who she was on the inside. "I'm actually surprised at how surprised everyone is that nothing has changed or feels different," the actress said in an interview about nine months after she won Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook. "I think everyone believes that when you win an Oscar, it's like some sort of magical charm that changes everything in your life. It really hasn't. I have had the most amazing year—career wise—and I am so grateful and so honored, but it really hasn't changed anything for my personal life. I still put on my acting pants one leg at a »
Diane Keaton and Jacki Weaver are forming a squad. Deadline reports that the pair have signed on to star in “Poms,” a comedy about women in a retirement community who start a cheerleading team. The project marks Zara Hayes’ narrative directorial debut.
Hayes is an accomplished documentary filmmaker who is best known for co-directing 2013’s “The Battle of the Sexes,” an exploration of the events leading up to the famous 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. A similarly-titled narrative version of the story — “Battle of the Sexes” — is set to hit theaters September 22. Emma Stone and Steve Carell star in the comedy, which is co-directed by Valerie Faris.

When you make a film as unbelievably good as Goodfellas, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with repackaging it, moving it out to Vegas, and making it about running a Casino. That’s essentially what Martin Scorsese’s movie Casino did. Only in this case he removed Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino and replaced them with the likes of Sharon Stone and James Woods. Is the movie the same as Gooodfellas? Definitely not. But it reminds me of how David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook) keeps recycling his favorite actors into movies. Oddly enough, Robert De Niro is in Russell’s films as well. While

How long has it been since Robert De Niro gave a really great performance? Maybe since his Oscar-nominated supporting turn five years ago in Silver Linings Playbook, right? But how long since his last truly great lead performance? It's been a while, which is why we're very excited about seeing him giving it all in the new trailer for HBO's The Wizard of Lies. In the made-for-cable feature, De Niro portrays Bernie Madoff, the notorious investment fraudster behind maybe the largest Ponzi scheme of all time. The actor has transformed himself a bit for the role, which makes the part reminiscent of his physical feat for Raging Bull. Perhaps this performance won't compare, and it won't even be qualified for an Oscar, but it does seem like it...

Quick: name the most recent film in which Robert De Niro delivered a dynamite performance. Silver Linings Playbook? Maybe the original Meet the Parents?
