Before there was Silver Linings Playbook, before there was America Hustle, there was Serena. The Susanne Bier-directed project was the first of three movies that Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence would film together. Unfortunately, the third installment in the Copper-Lawrence saga has not been faring as well as its predecessors. Read more 'Serena': London Review Serena is a romantic melodrama that follows two newlyweds (Cooper and Lawrence) in North Carolina in the 1920s as they attempt to build a timber empire. When the wife discovers that her husband has been keeping secrets from her about the business, it appears that

Between 2011 and 2013, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper made three films together. Two of those, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, both from director David O. Russell, have already come and gone. But the last, Susanne Bier‘s Serena, is only now preparing for a theatrical bow. Based on the novel by Ron Rash, Serena stars […]

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are reuniting for the long-delayed period piece "Serena" from director Susanne Bier ("After the Wedding," "Things We Lost in the Fire"). The film's newest trailer features the two stars all dolled up in sumptuous period duds for some romance, mystery and tragedy amid some breathtaking scenery captured by ace D.P. Morten Søborg (who's worked with Bier before, as well as Nicholas Winding Refn). Based on Ron Rash's novel, "Serena" takes place in Depression-racked North Carolina, where George Pemberton (Cooper) struggles to maintain his burgeoning timber empire, while his strong-willed young wife, Serena (Lawrence), may be taking their domestic -- and professional --partnership too far. Watch the new trailer here: Bier has reportedly been tinkering with the film since it wrapped principal photography in early 2012, and it had a tough time landing a distributor despite its A-list stars (it also stars Rhys Ifans, Sean Harris, »

Following the international trailer that debuted last month, Magnolia Pictures has released two domestic trailers for Serena, the third feature collaboration of Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper following Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.
The story centers on Serena (Jennifer Lawrence) and George Pemberton (Bradley Cooper), who build their own timber empire from the ground up at the end of the 1920s. Serena soon proves herself to be equal to any man: overseeing loggers, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man's life in the wilderness. With power and influence now in their hands, the Pembertons refuse to let anyone stand in the way of their inflated love and ambitions. However, once Serena discovers George's hidden past and faces an unchangeable fate of her own, the Pemberton's passionate marriage begins to unravel leading toward a dramatic reckoning.
As Jennifer Lawrence fans gear up to see her in mighty warrior mode for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, how many of them are likely to fork out for Depression-era drama Serena? Well, those J-Law lovers across the pond in the UK failed to show their support for the actress’s gloomier period piece – it opened in 19th place this past weekend. The film’s U.S. distributor, Magnolia Pictures, have not yet given up hope though on the film acquiring an audience in America, as they’ve now dropped a new trailer to entice filmgoers.
In the movie, Silver Linings Playbook leads Lawrence and Bradley Cooper play newlyweds Serena and George Pemberton. With the honeymoon phase twinkle still in their eyes, the pair launch a successful timber business and everything’s rosy. However, when they discover she is unable to bear children, George strays outside of the marriage and everything falls apart. »

Magnolia Pictures has released the official Us trailer for director Suzanne Bier’s drama Serena. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, which seems like a slam dunk except for the fact that the film was shot before Silver Linings Playbook and has been sitting on the shelf ever since. Apparently it’s just not that great as distributors refused to acquire the film for quite some time, but this trailer certainly makes the movie look at least interesting in a go-for-broke kind of way. Lawrence and Cooper play 1920s newlyweds who begin to build a timber empire, but their passion becomes hindered as a hidden past is discovered and Lawrence’s character decides to take fate into her own hands. Watch the new Serena trailer after the jump. The film also stars Toby Jones and Rhys Ifans, and will be released on iTunes and VOD on February 26, 2015 and »

Chris Martin, who? Just hours after E! News exclusively revealed that Jennifer Lawrence and the Coldplay rocker have split, the 24-year-old Oscar winner was spotted in Santa Monica, Calif. where she flashed a beaming smile for photogs as she pumped her own gas. Lawrence, who dated the musician for nearly four months following her break up with X-Men co-star Nicholas Hoult, looked like her usual carefree self and seemed in good spirits as she skipped to her car. The Silver Linings stunner was dressed cute and comfy for her afternoon outing, sporting a cozy shirt dress, black booties and a pair of dark shades. She wore her short-hair pulled back and added a matching headband, completing »
Lawrence, 24, and Martin, 37, have recently split up, reports E! News. They had begun dating in late June following Martin’s “conscious uncoupling” from wife Gwyneth Paltrow and Lawrence’s split from her on-and-off boyfriend Nicholas Hoult, 24.
The last time Lawrence and Martin were seen together was earlier this month when the Silver Linings Playbook actress attended the Hollywood Bowl, where Martin played with The Kings of Leon. Lawrence also watched Martin perform at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in September. The only pictures of the two were taken on the runway in Van Nuys in Los Angeles after they flew back from the Las Vegas festival.
It’s speculated that the cause of the split could be due to Martin ultimately deciding to reconcile with Paltrow. The two »

Piracy is threatening the financial underpinnings of the movie business, but theater owners are partly to blame, a panel of independent film producers argued at Saturday’s Produced By: New York Conference.
Sloss argued that hoping 20 year olds will either see films in theaters or opt to wait four months until they hits DVD “is a joke.” Already films such as “Snowpiercer” and “Margin Call” are opting to be released on demand and in theaters simultaneously, causing their profits to swell.
“You have to make the theatrical experience work on its own merits,” Sloss said.
“We’re creating bad habits,” he added. “I don’t think people steal content because they want content for free. They just want it when and where they want it.”

The 67-year-old actress has been cast in the leading role of Dotty, a film editor and mentor to James Franco's character, Deadline reports.
Zeroville is an adaptation of the Steve Erikson novel set in the late 1960s.
The story centers around a 24-year-old student who travels to Hollywood with a dream of making it big in the movie business.

The actor - who stars alongside Lawrence in period drama Serena - told Pa that it is "thrilling" to work with the 24-year-old.
Cooper said: "I've sort of hit the jackpot with being able to work with Jennifer Lawrence. When I knew she was going to play this character, I was fully aware it was going to be comic.
"Once she would breathe life into this character, it would become much more dimensional. It could be very easy to portray her as a stock character and there's just not one moment where you don't believe she's a human being."
"She's a wonderful, wonderful actress," he continued. "Her biggest asset is »
Movies give Pontius Pilate a bad wrap. Yes, he gave the orders to crucify Jesus Christ. But check canonical Biblical writing and one finds a tinge of reluctance, a man of power caving under the peoples' demands. Plus, would we still be talking about God's Son if Pilate didn't off him in the grisliest way possible? Silver linings. Pending deals, the next on-screen Pilate could add all this nuance with a splash of smarmy charm. Deadline reports that "Game of Thrones" favorite Pedro Pascal is in talks to play Judaea's prefect in the upcoming remake of "Ben-Hur." The film is said to skew closer to Lew Wallace's 1880 novel than the 1959 Charlton Heston-led epic, which chronicled the parallel stories of Jewish prince-turned-slave Judah Ben-Hur's quest for revenge and Christ's Passion. The in the original film, Pilate presides over the major chariot race setpiece and orders Jesus' death. He »

Film fans were stunned and delighted last night when multi-award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence made a surprise appearance ahead of the London Film Festival screening of her new film, Serena, along with the film’s director Susanne Bier.
The film is a relatively small part of the festival but with the two leads played by Lawrence and her Silver Linings Playbook co-star, Bradley Cooper, it was bound to generate plenty of interest – though clearly few had expected either of the stars to make an appearance for the film’s premiere.
The room erupted in rapturous applause as Lawrence was introduced and, after an impressive build-up about the ‘huge’ surprise, the star joked that if the surprise was actually popcorn and not her then she was leaving.
The audience were almost too in awe to laugh, though Lawrence was undeterred and continued in much the same tongue-in-cheek manner. When Bier said to »

It looks like director Sam Raimi will be moving in a very different direction of filmmaking than what we are used to seeing him do. Over the years he's given us films such as Evil Dead, Darkman, Army of Darkness, Spider-Man, Drag Me to Hell, and his most recent film, Oz the Great and Powerful.
Deadline is now reporting that the director is in talks to helm an adaptation of a novel called Love May Fail, which was written by Silver Linings Playbook author Matthew Quick. The script for this film was adapted by Mike White (School of Rock, Nacho Libre).
The story follows a character named Portia Kane, "who is coming off a demoralizing ending to her marriage to a cheating husband." While going through this, she "returns to her hometown determined to clear the name of her favorite English teacher, whose career was forcibly ended after a classroom scandal. »
