The Disaster Artist image reveals James Franco’s Tommy Wiseau

14 February 2017 1:40 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

New Line Cinema has revealed an image from this year’s upcoming The Disaster Artist, an adaptation of the novel of the same name detailing the troubled production of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, which often gets labelled as the worst movie ever made. The image gives us a first look at James Franco as the titular disaster artist Wiseau, along with his brother Dave Franco, who is playing Greg Sestero, a real-life friend of Wiseau who played Mark in The Room.

The Disaster Artist is set to have its world premiere at the SXSW film festival next month. The star-studded cast of the film also includes Seth Rogen (The Night Before), Zac Efron (Neighbors), Kate Upton (The Other Woman), Ari Graynor (The Sopranos), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Andrew Santino (Sin City Saints), Hannibal Buress (Neighbors), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2), and a cameo from Tommy Wiseau himself. »

Harvey Weinstein Taps Trump’s Travel Ban for New ‘Lion’ Oscar Messaging

9 February 2017 11:38 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

When it comes to awards season, Harvey Weinstein has a long history of tethering his contenders to the zeitgeist, or at least to a wider-ranging socio-political concern. And it usually happens in phase two, as campaigns begin to pivot toward a win.

For “Philomena” in early 2014, writer-star Steve Coogan and the film’s eponymous subject Philomena Lee were shuffled off to Rome for an audience with Pope Francis. They were there as representatives of the Philomena Project, which aims to raise public awareness in Ireland and around the world on the issue of forced and illegal adoptions and to help reunite families with the advancement of open records legislation in Ireland.

Weinstein himself hit the morning shows on behalf of “The Imitation Game” in early 2015, calling on the British government to pardon the thousands whose lives had been ruined with convictions under laws forbidding homosexuality, which was not decriminalized in the U. »

Kong: Skull Island cast and crew discuss characters and monsters

Coming Soon was honored with the opportunity of visiting the set of Kong: Skull Island, asking numerous actors for details about the characters they play, along with questioning director Jordan Vogt-Roberts about what is to be expected from the monsters in the film. Below is what each actor had to say about their character, and some information Vogt-Roberts gave out on the mythological beings of destruction.

Tom Hiddleston on Captain James Conrad: “He’s a survivalist. He’s a tracker. Army lost and found. He’s the guy you send in to find missing persons if a plane or a helicopter has crashed in the jungle, because he has a special tracking ability.”

Samuel L. Jackson on Lieutenant Colonel Packard: “He’s been in the army for a long time, he’s a lifer. He believes in his men’s lives and sanctity. God and country. My character is »

Kong: Skull Island producer reveals Godzilla vs. Kong connections

2 February 2017 11:00 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It seems John Goodman’s character in the upcoming Kong: Skull Island will play a critical role in bridging together the plot for the planned Godzilla vs. Kong movie in 2020.

Speaking to Cinema Blend, Kong: Skull Island producer Alex Garcia reveals “It’s a landslide expedition, officially, but John Goodman, who plays the guy from Monarch, is sort of pulling the strings in the background and we come to realize obviously that they knew much more than they let on initially.”

Garcia also elaborated on bringing Kong and Godzilla together, stating “If you can establish these characters in a way that feels compelling with the technology that we have today, with very distinct backdrops, where they’re coming from, they’re each established credibly in their own right, it should feel right for them to come together.”

Jordan Vogt-Roberts on building “a new mythology” with Kong: Skull Island

2 February 2017 3:55 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts recently spoke with The Nerdist about the upcoming blockbuster epic, discussing how it will touch upon Kong’s origins, as well as creating “a new mythology”.

“When you watch Predator 2 and you see that Xenomorph skull on the spaceship you’re like, ‘Oh my God!’ Your brain just goes crazy with all these possibilities,” said Vogt-Roberts. “And my favorite thing as a kid watching movies [was] just having all these little things in the background that you pick up on and your brain just goes wild with. So we’re trying to tiptoe a line. There’s a lot of stuff out there that our movie is sort of his origin story, and that’s not really what it is. There’s a lot of background mythology peppered into it as we create our own new mythology.”

Four Kong: Skull Island TV spots offer up new footage

20 January 2017 4:20 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Four brand new TV spots for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island have landed online, and while most of the footage showcased has already been unveiled through previous trailers/promos, each one offers up a decent amount of never-before-revealed footage and dialogue as well. See them all, courtesy of Joblo, below…

Surprisingly, the first spot, entitled “The Island,” has a lighter and more poignant tone than the other promos and attempts to paint Kong as a relatively sympathetic figure who’s home is being taken over by a group of humans. “All Hail the King,” “Hunt That Ape” and “Man is King” turn their focus towards Kong’s violent side, the other monsters on the island and the fire and destruction that comes along with the humans.

Box Office: ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘La La Land’ Ride Oscar Wave on Soft Holiday Weekend

15 January 2017 1:23 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

As far as the box office is concerned, the Martin Luther King holiday weekend might better be dubbed Memorial Day, as six new wide releases are weak or dying. Despite a wide array of product which should have boosted totals, this weekend looks to be down 19 per cent from last year.

On the other hand, Oscar contenders “Hidden Figures” (20th Century Fox) and “La La Land”(Lionsgate) continued to surf cresting audience enthusiasm to place first and second for the three day weekend.

School vacation Monday results may boost Universal’s “Sing” and possibly Disney’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” to higher positions. Animated musical “Sing” is holding well, with a 33 per cent drop. “Rogue One,” though now the top-grossing 2016 domestic release, is falling far faster than juggernaut “Force Awakens” a year ago.
