Jennifer Lawrence looks blue on set -- but there's nothing wrong with that. On Monday, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer tweeted the first image of the Academy Award winner donning her costume as the mutant Mystique. Lawrence is reprising the role she played in 2011's X-Men: First Class, and the striking physical transformation certainly gives her a look that's worlds apart from Silver Linings Playbook and The Hunger Games. »

Best known as Katniss in The Hunger Games, and most recently for her work in Silver Linings Playbook, Jennifer Lawrence is also in X-Men: Days of Future Past, this time in her full body makeup as extremely form-fitting Mystique. Director Bryan Singer gave fans yet another taste of what they can expect from the film, revealing a practically nekkid Lawrence decked out in blue body paint. The complex relationship between Lawrence’s Mystique and James McAvoy’s Professor X from First Class will reportedly continue in this follow-up. Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult also returns for the new film along with fellow First Class cast members. Patrick »

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in August: Osage County: Duel of the Oscar winners [See previous post: "Oscar 2014 Watch: Harvey Weinstein Cannes Film Festival Coming Attractions."] More Oscar 2014 bait: August: Osage County, directed by John Wells, and starring three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep (Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice, The Iron Lady) and Oscar winner Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich). Is it mere coincidence that Streep’s seventeenth Oscar nomination and third win was for her portrayal of British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in Phyllida Lloyd’s The Iron Lady — distributed by The Weinstein Company two years ago? Either way, Streep’s Oscar 2014 competition should be fierce, as Julia Roberts doesn’t seem to be wearing any makeup in the family drama. (Photo: Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in August: Osage County.) Adapted by Tracy Letts from his own play, besides Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, August: Osage County also features Oscar nominee Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear), Dermot Mulroney, Star Trek Into Darkness‘ Benedict Cumberbatch, »

There's a montage in "The Hangover Part III" -- a retrospective, if you will -- of the Wolfpack "through the years." While watching images from all three "Hangover" movies flash across the screen, it's hard not to think about Bradley Cooper's own journey since the first film debuted in 2009. In four short years, Cooper has transformed himself from wiseacre Phil Wenneck to an Academy Award-nominated actor -- a transformation so thorough, it's actually a little odd watching him play Wenneck again.
Cooper called after a long day of press events (that were held in Las Vegas, so your guess is as good as mine as to the amount of sleep he was running on). He discussed the end of the "Hangover" series, his relationship with David O. Russell, and the reasons behind his abrupt departure from the troubled Western "Jane Got a Gun." Cooper also talked about a recent meeting with Sean Penn (yes, »

Jennifer Lawrence attended the Cannes Film Festival yesterday (May 18) to promote her upcoming film release The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook star was joined by castmates Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne) and Sam Claflin (Finnick Odair), and the franchise's new director Francis Lawrence.
Also in attendance were Lionsgate co-chairs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman alongside Hunger Games producers Jon Kilik and Nina Jacobsen.
Lionsgate held a Capitol City party at the Majestic Barriere hotel - complete with flaming digital billboards, chocolate waterfalls and models decked in Capitol costumes - as the studio used Cannes as a global platform to launch the sequel with its international distributors.
Catching Fire, which opens in cinemas on November 22, will see Katniss and Peeta embark on a district-wide 'Victor's Tour'. As unrest spreads through Panem, President Snow prepares to send Katniss back into the arena for the 'Quarter Quell' 75th annual Hunger Games. »

This year's Majestic Hotel party sees host of films showcased and stars including Nicole Kidman join producer on stage
Around Oscar time this year, cheeky host Seth Macfarlane noted that the race being now run, and the winners and losers more or less apparent, thousands of dejected actresses were at least spared the burden of saying they found Harvey Weinstein attractive. But on Friday night here in Cannes, the cyclical business of finding Harvey sexy – for both men and women – began again in a big way as the great man unveiled his slate of upcoming projects at his annual party at the Majestic Hotel.
At this same bash last year, things were far more subdued: a few cocktails, a few trailers and we were all back outside, milling about on the Croisette in pretty short order. This, by contrast, was a massive event, with around nine or 10 films being showcased »

Harvey Weinstein said it himself at this year's Weinstein Company Cannes showcase, "2012 was a year as good as any year we had at Miramax." The three films highlighted at last year's event (Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, and The Master) went on to snag 16 Oscar nominations. This year's crop of films... well let's just say they have some work to do to live up to their older siblings. The only film that received an audible reaction from the crowd was the cut scene shown from Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives. The nearly five-minute scene featured Kristin Scott Thomas grilling her son's new girlfriend with the kind of language that would make a sailor blush. Gosling's character sat there taking it all...

Another movie based on a conspiracy behind the assassination President John F. Kennedy is going into development. The movie will be called Legacy of Secrecy, and it will be written and directed by David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook).
The movie is being set up at Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company by his dad George DiCaprio. Apparently, the movie will "blow the lid off of what really happened in Dallas in November 1963." It's looking like DiCaprio and Robert De Niro could star in the film as well. The movie is based on a book of the same name written by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann.
The news comes from showbiz411, who says it follows "the saga of FBI informant Jack Laningham. DeNiro would play Mafia kingpin Carlos Marcello, who confided to Langingham that he ordered the hit on Kennedy. Marcello died in 1993. But back during the days following the assassination, »

Last summer at Cannes, Harvey Weinstein held a special press conference to show off forthcoming film footage from The Master, Silver Linings Playbook, and Django Unchained — three major works from A-list auteurs. The Weinstein Company slate isn't stacked in quite the same way this year, but Weinstein held another event earlier today at the Hotel Majestic, at which he ran down the company's entire slate, padding some of the first looks — including a five-minute reel for Nicole Kidman's Grace Kelly biopic — with lots of trailers that we've already seen from films like August: Osage County and The Butler. Still, you couldn't help but notice that Weinstein's upcoming slate was packed with prestige films starring black actors, including Forest Whitaker, Michael B. Jordan, and Idris Elba. Always a canny awards-season presence, could Weinstein push all three men into a history-making Best Actor category? We haven't had more than one »

Coming off a banner year thanks to "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Django Unchained" netting over $100 million each domestically and three Oscars (two for "Django" and one for "Silver"), The Weinstein Company sailed into Cannes this year eager to kick off a follow-up via their annual slate preview. While last year saw their auteur-driven heavy hitters "Django," "Silver" and "The Master" debut pre-trailer footage that set the industry abuzz, this year's big reveal landed with more of a "meh." Or, as a journalist seated next to me to said, "Well, that was underwhelming." Not to say that their slate is unimpressive this year. Among their 2013 Oscar hopefuls are the Meryl Streep-Julia Roberts headlined family drama "August: Osage Country," Lee Daniel’s ridiculously star-studded "The Butler," Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize-winning sensation "Fruitvale Station" (aka "Fruitvale"), David Lowery's somber crime love story "Ain’t Them Bodies Saints" (they are handling foreign), and the Nicole. »

Harvey Weinstein took advantage of Cannes' many attendees to gather some of them together in order to tease TWC's upcoming films and get a head start on the next round of Awards season. That has been the modus operandi of The Weinstein in recent years, which had held more intimate affairs at swanky flats off the Croisette and today opted for a make-shift screening room (after obligatory cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in an adjoining room). "The last four years have been amazing with movies like 'The King's Speech,' 'Django Unchained,' 'Silver Linings Playbook,' 'The Artist' -- we've reached new heights," said Harvey Weinstein, squeezed into a dapper tux. "Last year was as good as any year at Miramax. Our international business keeps building as well." With a packed room of about a couple hundred press, festival programmers and special guests, Weinstein thanked »

In what has apparently become something of a tradition on the Croisette, this evening saw a select group of journalists forgo tempting Official Selection screenings to attend instead the starry, champagne-fuelled preview of The Weinstein Company’s forthcoming slate. Perhaps not quite as salivating a prospect as last year’s auteur-heavy, brand-new lineup, which included early glimpses of “Django Unchained,” “The Master,” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” it’s still a mark of TWC’s high standing on the awards circuit that what is essentially an invite-only marketing event got so many clamoring to attend. Well, that and the canapes (foie gras toastinis, breaded shrimp and mini eclairs, if you must know). Oh, and the presence of the legendary Harvey Weinstein. The evening kicked off with a few words from the more public “W” in TWC, with Weinstein taking to the stage to cue up the evening’s previews, but quickly, »

The phase “Like Buses” is an often overused expression, certainly here in the UK. However, it must definitely apply in this case as The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell is the latest filmmaker lining up conspiracy thriller centred on the infamous assassination of John F. Kennedy. I’m a sucker for the fascinating subject, with Oliver Stone’s JFK right up in my own top 5 of all time.
David Mamet has recently cast Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett in modern-set, cloak and dagger thriller Blackbird, in which a woman, following her fathers death, discovers he may have been involved in the cover-up. There is also debut writer/director Peter Landesman’s Parkland, the recently completed all-star thriller (which includes James Badge Dale, Zac Efron, Paul Giamatti and Billy Bob Thornton) that looks at the chaotic aftermath of the tragic event.
Russell’s film will be based on the the non-fiction book, »

David O. Russell is set to write and direct the long-developing "Legacy Of Secrecy".
Based on the book by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann, the story posits the theory that Mafia godfather Carlos Marcello told FBI informant Jack van Laningham that he was behind the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas in November 1963.
Leonardo DiCaprio was attached to the project a few years ago and is seemingly still onboard to play van Laningham. Russell is also bringing his "Silver Linings Playbook" star Robert DeNiro on to play Marcello.

Though director David O. Russell is currently busy helming his follow-up to last year’s Silver Linings Playbook, it appears that he’s lining up another high-profile project for the near future. A report has surfaced claiming that Russell is attached to both write and direct the long-in-the-works JFK conspiracy film Legacy of Secrecy. The film is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann, which asserts that Mafia godfather Carlos Marcello confessed to FBI informant Jack Van Laningham to having ordered JFK’s assassination. As part of a dangerous and long-secret undercover operation, the FBI positioned Van Laningham to become confidant to Marcello, who ruled organized crime in Louisiana and most of Texas for decades. Leonardo DiCaprio came onboard to produce and star in the pic back in 2010, and is expected to play Van Laningham. Hit the jump for more, including the »
