Storyline

Noel Edmonds helps a celebrity recall a magical moment in their life by recreating the month in the year in which it happened. A sort of "Where Are They Now" meets "This is Your Life" - there are interviews with people who were on television or in the news at the time, music from chart toppers, archive film and audio, and, in the last series, surprise reunions of survivors of disasters with their rescuer. Nostalgia with Noel
3 August 2010 | by (Ambrosia) – See all my reviews

The B.B.C.'s 'The Time Of Your Life' was clearly intended to cash-in on the success of I.T.V.'s 'This Is Your Life'. But instead of a celebration of a celebrity's personal achievements, he/she got to reenact one achievement, and through old clips and guest stars see what else was happening in the world at that time. It was a nostalgia fest combined with a 'luvvie' fest. The presenter was Noel Edmonds, and that fact alone would normally be enough to turn me off a show, but it was mostly interesting ( depending on which celebrity was featured ). One week Irene Handl brought the house down when asked if she'd cried after seeing the film 'E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial'. She said: "Why would I cry over a hoover extension?". Another edition gave us Gerry Anderson, co-creator of 'Thunderbirds' and other sci-fi puppet shows. Noel was cordial to the producer, making it all the more of a shock when on 'I Love Christmas' in 2001 he launched a fierce attack on the show, making fun of the way the marionettes were handled. Well, he had his chance to complain to Christine Glanville when he met her face-to-face, so why did he not take it? Una Stubbs got to relive the day she auditioned for 'Summer Holiday', and Warren Mitchell came on in his 'Alf Garnett' persona, followed closely by Alf's creator Johnny Speight. Christine Keeler made an rare appearance and, after chatting to Noel about ( what else? ) the Profumo Affair, walked off to zero applause. A girl came into the studio one night modelling Rudi Gernreich's topless bikini ( yes, we got to see her busty substances in all their glory! ). Oh and Gary Glitter was on another edition, and he and Noel got along like a house on fire. The show ran for three seasons.
