I WANT TO LIVE!
harrisonjfox15 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've only recently gotten into anime compared to a lot of people on here but I've already watched a lot of the "classics". Before I got into anime I watched all of the best western shows: Mr robot, breaking bad, game of thrones ect. They were all great but seeing the ratings from attack on Titan I decided to start watching anime and I watched through fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, attack on titan, hunter X hunter, code Geass, death note and more. I was dubious to start one piece due to its sheer episode count. But I did a month ago and now I'm here and this arc has been the single greatest piece of media I've ever seen and this episode is not only the best anime episode, but potentially the greatest TV episode of all time. How it's only 9.1 is an outrage, this deserves a 9.9. Robins desperate cry to live and Luffy shooting down the flag had my draw dropped. He would go to war with the whole world to save her. This is one of the best portrayals of raw human emotion I've ever seen. A suicidal girl who's spent her whole life being told she doesn't deserve to take another breath. She finds people who care for her and she finally decides she wants to live.

"If only once, it's okay for me to utter my true desire..... Then I..... I WANT TO LIVE"

Truly spectacular.

No matter who you are, ain't nobody born in this world to be alone!

Truly a heart-wrenching episode, one which might just leave a tear your eye! Franky's reaction at the end just depicts what this episode truly is! Saul tries his hardest to protect Robin and is enraged by the navy's cruelty, robin manages to escape and has a terrible and harsh life waiting ahead of her. But she finally finds true friends in our favorite pirate crew "The Strawhats".

The episode is full of some fantastic one-liners. The scene where Robin tries to laugh even when she has lost her Mother, her home and everyone else she knew that to at the age of 8, just squeezes your heart dries your throat. One Piece is full of some great back stories, this is one of the bests. Robin's words, "Yes! I want to Live!" will stay with you for years. It is one of the best One Piece moments.

Animation is great as always, Script is fantastic, music is great! Overall a memorable Episode.

Did Christopher Nolan directed this?

Warning: Spoilers
Well, this episode ruined my interest with live action shows. I have no words to describe it. It is God's work. Even after 17 years, still feels like this was aired yesterday and it is as timeless as The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I don't remember seing another backstory as much as Robin's was, it was incredible. Oda outdid himself with Nico Robin's backstory, One Piece never dissapoints with the backstories/flashbacks.

Nico Robin is my favorite One Piece character, and this episode proves us that Robin is a character that we should show a lot of love, because of what she has been in.

And, the "I want to live" scene at the end, is a perfect masterpiece of a scene that hit me with joy that Robin wants to be with her friends forever. Franky also brings the strawberry on the cake to cry emotionally at the end.

God-tier episode.

Life, liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!
Moody200820 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode contains everything One Piece stands for combined into one episode. The whole show is about freedom and pursuing your goals no matter how hard they may seem. Every character has a dream and they become a pirate because there is no other way to have the freedom to pursuit your dreams.

The US Constitutions sums this up perfectly: 'Life, liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!'.

In a world of globalization and the march to a one world government, this show post a warning about this future. The world government in the show can become our future soon, and in that situation there is no one who would be able to oppose such a power. This warning is similar to the one in George Orwell's 1984. Massive surveillance, social credit scores being implemented, the reduction of freedoms for a false increase in safety and AI are just a couple of the dangers that wait for us in our future.

The story of Nico Robin and her tries of escaping an all encompassing world government might be true in countries like communist china. She is not guilty of anything especially, except going against the governments laws, no matter how absurd that law is.

Generally the pursuit of knowledge and human advancement should be rewarded but in this case, the government destroy an entire island and pursuit a young girl for decades only for the sin of knowing something they shouldn't.

Her cry at the end "I want to live" actually resonates as the cry of all those being oppressed now and in the past for what they believe in and their desire for liberty.

Luffy's and the straw hats opposition shows that there will always be those who will oppose totalitarianism and be ready to give their lives for freedom.
