This is a re-make of the much under-appreciated, but classic Spencer Tracey flick "Bad Day at Black Rock". The only weakness in the original film was its title, but it gave Tracey a rare (for him) role as lead in an action flick. In the original, Tracey visits the remote town of his friend's parents to return a personal effect of their son, who'd saved Tracey's life, but died in the war. His character is old, feels used up, and has lost an arm in the war (WWII) himself. What he finds is a small desert town where no one is willing to talk about his friends parents, and where one man (Robert Ryan) runs roughshod over the whole community. The more he is pushed, the more determined he becomes to learn the truth, eventually uncovering the conspiracy, bringing the guilty to account, and realizing that he's not the "used up" man he thought he was. There is at least one scene, between a one armed Tracey and Ernest Borgnine (as the town tough guy) that is pure movie gold.
