Balufu Bakupa Kanyinda is a new inventive voice in the field of cinema related to questions about mighty Africa and its socio economic affairs. His debut film "Juju Factory is about the frustrations, joys, pains and suffering of Africans (Congolese people) in Brussels. We get to see a talented Belgian writer who is also a Congolese by birth having enormous troubles getting his work published. In "Juju Factory", the backdrop is an area called Matongé which has become a symbol of cultural and social integration. Apart from Africans there are also many Indian and Pakistani families who live in Matongé. It is an area full of African people but there are other white and black people too.It is because of all these socially favorable features that Matongé has become a role model of social integration. The funny part of this film is that it makes a politically correct mockery of publishing industry as this frustrated writer experiences a certain loss of creative freedom. It is subtly conveyed to us that any kind of writer is normally expected to write what the publisher expects to do. Juju Factory is a light hearted film where African women have been shown as dependent on their men. This film shows that it is not easy to make a living as a writer. This is not entirely apolitical as it talks of Congo and dark period before the independence. Those who look for aesthetic quality will not be disappointed as some of the dream sequences have been nicely filmed.
