Storyline

Near considers how to deal with the presence of a shinigami, who can only be seen by those who have touched the Death Note. Before Misa can publicly announce her engagement to Light at a televised pop music festival, Near has her and her bodyguard, Det. Mogi, picked up for questioning. Simultaneously, he gives Stephen Gevanni (who's been shadowing suspect Teru Mikami - the fourth Kira), an order: touch Teru's Death Note and look around for a shinigami (neither realizing that the book's a fake). Quotes

Near: Mr. Aizawa, please don't take any unnecessary actions on your own.
Shuichi Aizawa: Unnecessary action?
Near: Yes. This is not the point where we bring up evidence against Kira and openly confront him. I must corner him in a dead end with a plan that will guarantee his defeat. This is what it will take to stop him for good. Mr. Aizawa, I'm going to be blunt with you. You and the task force are already out of the picture.
