Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb' No Longer a Grammy Contender

10 December 2009 6:39 PM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" is no longer on the run for Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media at 2010 Grammy Awards. Weeks after being announced to receive the nod, the song is revealed to be disqualified from the competition due to the fact that it was not specifically penned for "Hannah Montana: The Movie".

While the news came as a surprise for many, a source inside Cyrus camp insisted that the pulling out of "The Climb" was hardly a shock. In fact, the source as reported by People magazine claimed that the song written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe was submitted in the category by mistake. When the error was discovered, the song was withdrawn a day following the December 2 nominations announcement.

Taking the slot left by "The Climb" is "All Is Love", the song written by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for Maurice Sendak book adaptation, »

Announcing the 2010 Grammy Award Nominees!

2 December 2009 8:22 PM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

The Grammy Awards rolled out the red carpet this evening with a one-hour live show to celebrate their 2010 nominees. (Check out photos from the event here.) The night featured performances by previous winners like the Black Eyed Peas, along with the announcement of the acts who will be competing for the special honor. The results? This year is all about the ladies. Taylor Swift has already run away with the majority of awards in 2009, and she's towards the top here too, earning eight nominations including Record of the Year and Album of the Year. But somewhere out there, Kanye West is smiling, because his girl Beyonce bested Ms. Swift tonight with a total of ten nods. As for me, I'm especially happy to see Lady Gaga get recognition in multiple categories following a disappointing run for her at the American Music Awards. Also worth noting - the boys of The Lonely Island »

Is Idris Elba Playing Jimmy Stewart To Thomas Ikimi's Hitchcock? Fantastic New Poster Art For Legacy Says Yes.

1 December 2009 8:54 AM, PST | Screen Anarchy | See recent Screen Anarchy news »

Is it fair to compare a young, second time film maker with one of cinema's all time greats?  No, of course it's not.  But if Thomas Ikimi's ultra low budget debut Limbo wasn't enough to convince you that he has aspersions towards making the same sort of high concept thrillers that made Hitchcock famous, well, a quartet of concept posters for his sophomore effort are here to make that point clear.  Titled Legacy, the film stars The Wire's Idris Elba in the lead and the just-released poster art has that classic Saul Bass influence all over it.

Here's the press release that went out went we first covered the film back in May:

Family Matters

25 November 2009 9:02 AM, PST | backstage.com | See recent Backstage news »

The cast of "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" developed a true familial dynamic—impressive, considering that the family depicted in Lee Daniels' film is anything but harmonious. The story follows Claireece "Precious" Jones (Gabourey Sidibe), a pregnant, illiterate 16-year-old who suffers constant abuse at the hands of her vitriolic mother (Mo'Nique) and absentee father. She eventually transfers to an alternative high school and slowly begins to turn her life around. The script, adapted by Geoffrey Fletcher from Sapphire's novel, had an immediate effect on the actors who signed on to the project. Paula Patton, who plays Precious' kindly teacher, Ms. Rain, recalls that it reduced her to tears. "There's something magical about a script that creates a visceral reaction in you," she says. "I loved it."Sidibe, meanwhile, had read the book a few years earlier and felt an instant connection to the vibrant characters and themes. »

Armond White At It Again: Hates on Multiple Award Winner Precious

5 November 2009 9:44 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Everyone's favourite contrarian [1] critic Armond White has once again made his presence felt this week, after delivering a scathing review of the Lee Daniels film Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. The movie, which hits select theatres this weekend, is riding a massive wave of Oscar buzz after picking up awards at Sundance, Tiff and the San Sebastian Film Festival earlier this year. (Last year's People's Choice Award winner in Toronto was Best Picture winner Slumdog Millionaire.) Precious is currently sitting at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes [2], so of course White doesn't like it. However, the fact that he gives it a negative review isn't all that surprising -- it's what he says about it that will blow your mind. "The hype for Precious indicates a culture-wide willingness to accept particular ethnic stereotypes as a way of maintaining status quo film values. Stomp The Yard Sequel Moves Forward, Hires A Director

22 October 2009 8:07 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Columbus Short turned in a pretty remarkable performance in last year's Cadillac Records, playing the mercurial early Motown great Little Walter. But apparently he's just not quite ready to take on that serious acting career, as evidenced by his considering a return for Stomp the Yard 2, a movie is that is definitely happening now that Rob Hardy has been hired to direct it. Hardy was an executive producer on the first Stomp the Yard, and has his own scattered directing career behind him, though I have no idea how he plans to handle the street dancing that's pretty much the entire reason for this movie to exist. THR writes that shooting is scheduled to begin in Atlanta next month, even though Short's deal has yet to be signed. Maybe that's why they don't have plot details either? »

'Stomp the Yard' sequel finds scribe

21 October 2009 5:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Writer-director Rob Hardy has signed on to helm the sequel "Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming" for Rainforest Films.

Columbus Short, who starred in the original Sony Screen Gems release, is in negotiations to reprise his role as DJ, a master street dancer. Other casting is under way. The sequel is set to shoot early next month in Atlanta.

Will Packer ("Obsessed") will produce through his Rainforest banner, along with Short. Hardy was an executive producer on the original "Stomp the Yard," which unspooled in 2007 and rang up $74 million worldwide.

Repped by Gersh and manager Adam Robinson, Hardy is a partner in Rainforest ("Obsessed," "This Christmas") and an exec producer on the comedies "Act Like a Lady Think Like a Man" and "The Black Phantom," both at Screen Gems. He wrote and directed the features "The Gospel" and "Trois" and has directed episodes of "Criminal Minds" and "ER."
