42-year-old independent horror filmmaker Marc Selz (Short Cut Road, The Rockville Slayer, and Satanic Panic) has taken a few years off to re-group after completing three feature horror films in the past ten years. At the time, his production company, Marc Selz Production, LLC, had distribution on all three films simultaneously — something to celebrate.

Returning from a filmmaking hiatus after banging out three feature films, Midwest indie filmmaker Marc Selz is ready to jump back into the movie-making fray, beginning with the grand opening of his new production company Psycho Logical Pictures.
No matter how much actual production comes out of this production company, we feel Selz has already scored big-time by coming up with such a catchy, creative title for his venture. But if history is any indicator, Selz will certainly be ultra-productive as he previously completed Short Cut Road, The Rockville Slayer and Satanic Panic and had distribution on all three films simultaneously.
The official Psycho Logical Pictures website will be launching soon. Keep an eye out for more on Selz and Psycho Logical Pictures.

Satanic Panic (out on DVD next week from Celebrity Video) is named after the wave of paranoia that swept across the U.S. in the early ’80s, inspired by reports and rumors that adults and children were being kidnapped by devil-worshipping cults and subjected to torturous rituals and sacrifice. It’s a potentially provocative and eerie premise for a filmmaker to build on—but here, writer/director Marc Selz doesn’t really try.
Portions of the movie’s first third have the right idea, beginning in vérité/interview style as a fruity self-confessed Satanist defending his own nonviolent lifestyle is intercut with survivors recounting their ordeals at cultists’ hands. The most evocative material follows, as a man shows the camera around his neighborhood of abandoned, boarded-up homes, the residents all having fled in fear of local satanic activities. Sadly, Selz then goes schlocky, cutting to the same guy hanging naked in a basement,...

Three new stills and another trailer have made their way online today for Marc Selz's upcoming devil-fest Satanic Panic courtesy of the director himself, and rather than being stingy, we figured we'd share.
Satanic Panic is inspired by true accounts and the craze that took place in the late 1970's and early 1880's and follows in the footsteps of classic horror films from that generation. In 1980 ten-year-old twins Toby and Cindy Richards were abducted by a group of demented satanic cult members. Cindy managed to escape, but Toby was never found. Twenty-five years later a group of six friends take a canoe trip to rekindle their friendship, only to find themselves in trouble with crazy, small town locals and the same satanic cult that took Toby years ago. Can the friends make it out of the town of Thornwood alive and in one piece, or will they become victims of sacrifice?...

We got ahold of some new, exclusive pics from the independent fright features Fading Of The Cries and Satanic Panic, to go with the news that the latest trailers for both have hit the web. You can see all the visual goodness from both movies below.
Fading Of The Cries, which we previously told you about here, is a fantasy-chiller starring Brad Dourif from writer/director Brian Metcalf, who tells us that the movie is currently in postproduction, and targeting a release next year. You can see its official website here.
Satanic Panic is indie filmmaker Marc Selz’s saga of a group of friends whose camping trip in the woods is rudely interrupted by a group of devil worshippers. You can see our last item with info about its October DVD release here, read more about it in Fango #287, on sale in September, and see the movie’s official website here.

Marc Selz's Satanic Panic is headed to DVD and Blu-ray October 13, 2009 (date subject to change). "It took our company four years from beginning to end to finish Satanic" says Selz. It's always nice to see the little guy make good. Big studio films have a habit of swallowing up the indie scene, but lucky for us some really good stuff can stand whatever Hollyweird can throw at it. Case in point -- Marc Selz's Satanic Panic.
Selz dropped us a line today with some new stills for you guys and the following -- very good -- news:
"Marc Selz Productions, LLC, has just signed a world distribution deal for Satanic Panic with Celebrity Video Distribution out of Los Angeles, CA. Cvd is a fresh new company that has people with years of experience under their belts, and we look forward to working with them. The tentative release date for the DVD/Blu-ray of Satanic Panic is October 13, 2009. Fango received a distribution update from director/co-writer Marc Selz on Satanic Panic, his killer-cult flick that we last covered here. “As of right now,” Selz tells us, “Celebrity Video has a release date of October 13 for DVD and Blu-ray, and they’re going to take pre-orders starting the second week of September.”
The discs will be fairly well-stocked with extras, too: “We’re going to have a commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, a creature-rendering slideshow and the trailer.” The disc will present the film in 16x9 widescreen with a Dolby 5.1 Surround sound mix.
That’s not all, though; Selz has also signed a deal with NBC Universal’s Chiller channel to broadcast his previous film, The Rockville Slayer, in October. “We just got done sending them the delivery materials in both standard def and HD,” he says. “We are really excited about getting Rockville some air time. It looks like October,...

Marc Selz dropped us a line with a couple of stills from his devil-cult film Satanic Panic and talked some distro plans! So when can we expect to see the demonic mayhem?
According to Selz, the film has been submitted to several companies and they're hoping to hear something back very soon. In the interim, dig on the stills below, and we'll keep you informed.
The film is based on the silly panic that occurred during the 1970s and 1980s when Satanism was all the rage. Though the Satan card isn't played as much today, back only 20 to 30 years ago the Lord of Darkness was the cause of everything from D&D to Presidential elections. For such a turbulent subject it has not really gotten the screen time it deserves until now. The eyewitness accounts of all the ritualistic wrongdoing have paved the road, and with Marc Selz behind the...

Fango got an update and new exclusive photo of the Toby demon from Marc Selz’s devil-cult flick Satanic Panic, which we last told you about here. Check out the pic below. “The film is currently shopping distribution,” Selz tells us. “We have it out with a number of companies that we are waiting to hear back from, and we are hoping to get something going soon.
“The straight-to-dvd horror market is really tough right now,” he continues, “and hopefully Satanic Panic will find a label and an audience. We are also currently working on a new full trailer that should be done at the end of July.”
Meanwhile, the Zagone Studios mask, designed by J. Anthony Kosar and fashioned after the film’s creature has begun rolling off the assembly line (pictured above), and Selz sent along links to a whole bunch of places you can grab one:
Amazon.

Just got a heads up from the guys behind the upcoming indie film Satanic Panic, Marc Selz Productions, that a mask design used in the movie was just picked up by Chicago-based Zagone Studios for reproduction! The mask, which you can see in all its badass glory below, will be part of Zagone’s 2009 catalog and will be in select Halloween outlets next year.
The mask was sculpted by J. Anthony Kosar, a young kid who's got a helluva lot of promise if his website’s any indication. Satanic Panic follows a group of friends who run afoul of a demented Satanic cult and find themselves prime candidates for sacrifice.
Distribution is being sought as we speak, so expect to hear more soon!

September 20-26, 2008, is certain to go down in history as one of the bleakest weeks our country has faced. Between the proposed $700 billion bailout of Wall Street and the largest bank failure heretofore seen, there wasn't much to be happy about over the past seven days. Some might even say that, like genre films, it's the stuff of nightmares. But I prefer to get my dose of the dark side from fantasy horror, not the real thing. So let's put the bad news on hold for a bit and see what's been happening in our little corner of the world.
The perfect opportunity to escape reality is coming via La's Screamfest 08, and they released their full line-up earlier this week. Films I've been dying to see including 100 Feet, Trick 'r Treat, Parasomnia, and The Burrowers will be screened there. Rest assured we'll be all over it as it goes down from October 10th-19th.

Word just came down from indie director Marc Selz that his latest contribution to our genre, Satanic Panic, is preparing for its world premiere screening in the small Illinois town of Wheeling. Since not much usually happens in the Midwest (I know, I used to live there), we’ve got to be sure we let you know when something finally does!
Panic will have two screenings, one at 8 and one at 10, on Friday, November 28th at the Westin Chicago North, 601 Milwaukee Ave. Tickets will only set you back $5 a person, including popcorn (on a first come, first serve basis, of course) which is a helluva lot cheaper than most flicks theses days!
The film deals with the titular craze that reached its peak during the late 80’s before tapering off, and what would happen if those Satanists responsible for causing the panic struck again today. You can learn more at...
