Trouble at home
7 January 2009 | by (Italy) – See all my reviews

Californication continues its successful mission of being one of the edgiest, funniest adult TV comedies available. This time, all it takes to do that is a one-night stand, marital problems and the usual freewheeling profanity.

So, what's up with Hank in this episode? Well, after dumping Meredith, he finds temporary comfort in the arms of a pot-smoking surfer girl (Michelle Lombardo), only to regret the decision the following morning when he discovers she has stolen some of his stuff. While berating himself over that issue, Hank accompanies Karen to watch their daughter perform with her band, but is interrupted by some new Mia-related trouble. As for good old Charlie, he and his wife Marcy are trying to come up with new ways to spice up their love life.

In terms of stealing scenes, the real king of this episode is Evan Handler, all thanks to his wonderfully filthy conversation with the missus ("Remember the last time we tried daylight anal sex? Not good!"). It's way funnier than his breakthrough role in Sex and the City, and why he didn't receive an Emmy nomination for the effort remains a mystery. Then again, neither did the superb Duchovny. Mysteries...
