The Restraining Order is another funny episode of "Samantha Who?"
13 November 2007 | by (Baton Rouge, La.) – See all my reviews

As the episode begins, Sam arrives in Dena's car with a rifle in her hand. She explains about bonding with her dad as we flashback three days before. Sam is with her parents at an ice cream shop sampling all the flavors. When the Go-Go's "We Got the Beat" plays on the radio behind the counter, Sam suddenly cries and hastily leaves. She later encounters a guy who we later find out had a restraining order against her and always runs at the first sight of her. Sam is determined to make up with him by first hitting him on the head with an orange, and then sneaking into his car and confronting him. Things seem solved then she hears that song from another car again and abruptly leaves. When she talked with parents about this, her mother leaves in the middle of the conversation with the dad talking about something different: going hunting. When Sam realizes that her father doesn't really listen to her, she decides to try bonding with him by accompanying him on the shooting spree. It goes disastrously wrong so she has Dena pick her up which is where the story began. As they make a brief stop to return the gun, the "restraining order" guy again shows up and beats a hasty retreat when he sees Sam with the gun. As Dad picks up Sam at the police station, he turns on the radio which triggers Sam's memories of being a high school student with awful hair complaining about being passed over for homecoming queen (when that Go-Go's song played on the radio) which was the day her father stopped trying to communicate with his daughter. With that, Sam resolves to be more considerate of her male parent...Another funny episode of "Samantha Who?" that reveals another facet of her character as well that of her dad. Wonderfully humorous reactions between Sam and dad as she tries to follow him on preparing how to shoot a rifle. And the coincidental appearances of the "restraining order" guy are hilarious. And what a nice scene of Frank the Doorman and his communicating with his daughter on cell as Sam and her dad are on a nearby bench eating her new favorite ice cream: chocolate mint chip. Glad this show is doing so well on ABC. Hope to review again next week...
