Sometimes there's humor in making a movie . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . we learn in this 35th Anniversary reunion of some of the surviving cast from THE COWBOYS. After one day's shooting, for instance, John Wayne returned to his restaurant table from the men's room with a pant leg wringing wet. To paraphrase Wayne's explanation to his seat-mates, "Happens to me all the time, the guy next to me along the trough suddenly turns mid-stream and blurts out, 'You're John Wayne!'" THE COWBOYS: TOGETHER AGAIN is chock full of similar tributes to Wayne, but it's pretty much a mutual admiration club right down the line. Bruce Dern did a pretty thorough job of terrorizing the cast's many Ten-Year-Olds, more or less putting them in real fear for their lives as shooting progressed. Roscoe Lee Browne sort of did the same thing to Wayne, unexpectedly throwing an apparently REAL knife near John's hand in the pie-stealing scene. Around the time of this shoot, Wayne accepted an early Razzie Award at Harvard, since this was the Adam Sandler Period of his career. When Wayne mentioned to Dern that some Americans might take a dislike toward him for pumping five squibs into the one-time movie icon, Bruce told Mr. GREEN BERET, "But they'll love me in Berkeley!"
