Pretty lame slasher snoozer, 17 July 2009
Author: t-birkhead from United Kingdom

I wanted to like this more than I did, I tried and tried but in the end it really isn't very good. We begin with the infamous serial killer Adam Brandis, aka Spiker being transported from jail to an asylum. Unsurprisingly, during the transportation he manages to break loose, and off a couple of people, before conveniently coming across a maintenance worker hammering railroad spikes, his weapon of choice. Having armed himself, he heads to his old haunts and comes across a bunch of luckless teens including a girl with a bit of a connection with him. Now, this should make for a decent old school slasher. The film doesn't screw around with irony or post modernism, its cheaply done and should hark back to the fun of the old days for the genre. Unfortunately the film lacks significantly in either the conventional markers of horror goodness, writing, suspense etc. nor the the hallmarks of good trash, gore and nudity. Both gore and nudity are pretty lacking, there is a smidgen of both but nothing to really impress, just the odd splash of fun to stop things from turning to a complete non starter. As the titular killer Frank Zagarino (who also directs) does an OK job. He's a veteran of low budget action and puts across a demeanour not unlike a generic early 90's action villain. Cold, disengaged yet efficient at his work, he gives the film a bit of a kick with his watchable portrayal. Which is more than can be said for the rest of the cast, for other than a semi likable heroine played by Giselle Rodrguez and an amusingly bad ominous turn form David Fralick, no one stands out as either good or effectively rubbish. I didn't have too bad a time watching this, its pretty darned crummy but has a vein of poor movie interest running through it to connect the one or two good bits. Not something I would ever recommend then, but one could still do worse.
