Religious apocalypse flick Legion begins shooting! Here's 10 set pics to prove it

16 June 2009 10:20 AM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

Last month we brought you a little background on Scott Charles Stewart's directorial debut, Legion, which sounded a lot like The Mist meets Constantine.

Starring Dennis Quaid, Paul Bettany, Tyrese Gibson, Kate Walsh, Kevin Durand and Lucas Black, the film tells the story of "a terrifying biblical apocalypse" which descends upon the world. A group of strangers, stranded in a remote truck stop diner in the Southwest, unwittingly become humanity's last line of defense when they discover the diner's young waitress is pregnant with the messiah.

Its sounds like an amazing project so we're happy that it's finally started filming. The good people of io9 have even managed to track down some behind the scenes pics for us to share, so check them out after the break. No actors make an appearance but I must say there's some decent car-nage. I'm also curious about the significance of the crazy

Twilight's Cam Gigandet to Play Vampire in Priest

8 June 2009 10:06 AM, PDT | From Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news

Twilight star Cam Gigandet is set to return to the world of the undead in new movie Priest. Based on a TokyoPop comic series, Priest sees a warrior priest go up against savage vampires in a bid to save his kidnapped niece.

Gigandet will be playing a part-vampire boyfriend of the niece, and will be joined by the already announced Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code). Director Scott Stewart (Legion) is on board, along with scriptwriter Cory Goodman, and the movie is due for release in September 2010.

It looks like Gigandet is a hot pick for vampire roles, after playing villain James alongside Robert Pattinson in Twilight. If nothing else, he's certainly popular with the ladies. Oh, and the MTV Movie Awards.

Cam Gigandet joins Paul Bettany in Priest

7 June 2009 9:25 PM, PDT | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

Back in March, we told you about Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code) being "in negotiations" to star in the title role in Screen Gems' big-screen adaptation of Tokyopop's Priest.

Bettany has officially landed the role, and he'll be co-starring alongside rising star Cam Gigandet, who has been officially locked-in, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Twilight actor recently appeared in January's The Unborn, and will be seen in genre fare again when Pandorum opens in September.

Cory Goodman (The Brood) adapted the screenplay from the source comic. Priest is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampires and follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.

Gigandet plays a young wasteland sheriff who is part vampire. He partners with Bettany to save the girl he loves, the niece.

What will happen on the day God abandons us? Scott Stewart's Legion has the answer

28 May 2009 10:34 AM, PDT | From QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news

"And he (Jesus) asked him (the man), 'What is thy name?' And he answered, saying, 'My name is Legion: for we are many.'" -- The Gospel of Mark, 5:9

You may not have heard the name Scott Stewart, but he's been the senior FX wunderkind on such balls-to-the-wall FX flicks as Grindhouse, The Host, Sin City and Iron Man so the fact that he's chosen Legion to be his directorial debut is an exciting prospect.

For those of you who are just hearing about the project for the first time, Legion is an upcoming post-apocalyptic film that follows a few survivors on the day that God decides to abandon humanity and let all the nasty demons who've been trying to get a hold of our mortal souls have their wish. Until now, that's basically all anyone's known about the project. However, we just received a bunch of

The composer, who is best known for his big orchestral scores for Alien: Resurrection and Dante's Peak as well as the quirkier Office Space, has scored a lot of dark subjects lately, including Evil Angel, The Lodger and 100 Feet. Paul Bettany Moving From Archangel To Priest

31 March 2009 8:32 PM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

Paul Bettany's upcoming picture, Legion, has me pretty excited even though we haven't gotten much more than a rudimentary plot description for the movie. I'm so excited, in fact, that the idea that Bettany will be reteaming with the film's director, Scott Stewart, has me intrigued about their second potential collaboration already. The Hollywood Reporter ran the news that Bettany is in talks to star in Stewart's next picture, Priest. Where Legion will see Bettany as an archangel, this second film would see the actor as a priest who turns against the church in his effort to track down a group of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. I know that a second picture puts a lot of pressure on both Bettany and Stewart to deliver with Legion, but I think Bettany is up to it. The actor has a pretty fantastic range and is in dire need of

Paul Bettany is in negotiations to star in Priest, the adaptation of the comic book set after centuries of war between man and vampire, where a warrior priest turns against the church to track down a pack of vampires who kidnapped his niece. Gerard Butler was originally down to play the lead but obviously, he is out now. Bettany will be re-teaming with his Legion director, Scott Stewart, and I think that movie deserves a mention if you haven't already heard about it. In Legion, a group of...

Paul Bettany to Star in Adaptation of TokyoPop's Priest

31 March 2009 10:51 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Other than the title and the most basic plot summary, not a whole lot else was known about Screen Gems' adaptation of the TokyoPop comic Priest when we last talked about it in December. But it's looking as if director Scott Stewart may have found his perfect priest. According to Hr, Paul Bettany is in negotiations to star and Stewart says that since working with Bettany on their most recent film Legion, that "Bettany was Priest." In a world wrecked by centuries of violent warfare between man and vampire, a warrior priest turns against the church in order to save his kidnapped niece from a homicidal gang of vampires. Screen Gems has the possibility to make this a very memorable film, as the concept is a provocative one. On the other hand, Screen Gems is also quite famous for watering down their films for the PG-13 audience, which with

Paul Bettany Is Ordained for 'Priest'

31 March 2009 8:02 AM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Paul Bettany obviously has a thing for the sacrilegious. Fresh off playing the Archangel Michael in Legion, Bettany is reteaming with director Scott Stewart for Priest, ScreenGems' adaptation of Hyung Min-woo's popular manga series.

Bettany will play Ivan Isaacs, the warrior priest who turns his back on the Church to rescue his niece from a pack of vampires. The role once belonged to Gerard Butler, until the project fell apart sometime in 2006. ScreenGems revived the project last December with Stewart, keeping Cory Goodman's screenplay.

The casting came about not out of Bettany and Stewart's desire to reunite for religion, but due to ScreenGems president Clint Culpepper, who apparently thought Isaacs needed to be played by a former albino monk: "I knew the moment I saw Stewart's first cut of Legion that Bettany was Priest and so I mentioned it to him immediately."
