Episode two is far from shocking.

Author: tyler-and-jack from Edinburgh.
5 January 2013

Sam (Bret Harrison) wakes up one morning to find that he's getting electric shocks from almost everything he touches. This amuses 'Sock' (Tyler Labine) no end but it turns out that there's a reason for this fun with electricity. The devil (Ray Wise) needs Sam to capture another escaped soul and this time it's someone who likes to turn volts into jolts. As if that wasn't enough, Sam is once again prevented from spending some quality time with Andi (Missi Peregrym) when his boss (Donavon Stinson) puts him on nights.

The pattern was quickly established in the Pilot episode of Reaper so this episode does have a worrying feeling of over-familiarity already. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing when it all works so well. The supernatural element is thrilling and fun, the characters bounce off each other wonderfully and the comedy is easy and plentiful.

There's a little moral message incorporated about honesty being the best policy but, while that's okay, there's a lot more fun to be had just watching the devil be mischievous and push a shopping trolley into the path of a car.

Peter Lauer is the director this time but Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters remain the script writers and remain just as sharp and witty, as do all of the leading players - mainly Harrison, Labine and Wise.

Not as good as the Pilot episode but still a lot of fun, if this stays at this level for every episode then I'll be very pleased.
