Storyline

Halloween preparations take a backseat when Chuck sympathizes with Laszlo Mahnovski, a genius inventor kept in isolation to work for the CIA, who escaped and is suspected of vicious murders. Buy More's nerd herd meanwhile is to apply for the vacant lower management post, for which only absent Chuck is truly fit. Written by KGF Vissers

Trivia

Chuck disarms the bomb at seven seconds left on the countdown just like the bomb in the James Bond movie Goldfinger. The movie also gets mentioned several times during this episode. Additionally, the part where Chuck gets ejected from his car is from a similar scene in Goldfinger, when Bond ejects one of the henchmen. See more »

Goofs

The credits shown when Chuck and Laszlo finish watching "A View To A Kill" in the Buy More store give a copyright date of 2007 and list Don Zenz as the Production Sound Mixer. "A View To A Kill" was released in 1985, and Don Zenz did not work on it. See more »

Chuck Vs. The Sandworm
23 May 2013 | by (Morro Bay, Hammett Valley, Twin Rocks) – See all my reviews

The only reason I tuned in for this episode is Jonathan Sadowski, who did an awesome job as Laszlo, the child prodigy who was recruited at an arcade on the Pier to work for the government. Angry at the whole world because the government used him, Laszlo escapes the compound he's been kept in and runs into Chuck, convincing him to splurge on a pancake breakfast and help hide him until he figures out what to do. Quite quickly, Laszlo becomes mentally unstable (it's hinted that he's been on medication...why is this so common? Crazy geniuses?) and now he's not taking it, so he's going to wig out any second.

Meanwhile, it's Halloween, and everyone looks forward to Chuck and his best pal Morgan dressing up in their "space penis" costume. Chuck is up for a promotion at Best Buy (cough...Buy More) and Morgan is as annoying as ever, which is why I tuned out pretty early on when this show came out. And as usual, Chuck's sister is given nothing to do but hang on the arm of Mr. Awesome and act like everyone should have the Awesome boyfriend she has. Agent Walker is beautiful, but never convinced me she was a tough government agent. Adam Baldwin as Casey is terrific, and I do like Zachary Levi...he's geekily sexy and I was shocked to see a really good chemistry between Chuck and Laszlo in this episode (don't mind me, I'm a perv always on the prowl for m/m inspiration). Too bad Laszlo couldn't be a regular super-villain to tangle with.

A great episode in a so-so series.
