Christina Applegate mentions to Fish during the music video shoot that she was in an all girl punk band. When in fact, in real life, Applegate was a founding member of the all girl group The Pussycat Dolls.
Some of the scenes were filmed in Toronto, Canada (not actually Ohio). The Chinatown scene was filmed on Spadina street in Toronto's Asian district. One of the earliest club scenes when they exit the gig and into a back alley to a limo, was filmed in and outside an all ages club downtown called the Reverb.
When Vesuvius' manager is informing Fish that he is fired from the band, The song "Nobody's Fool" by _Cinderella (IV)_ is playing in the background, specifically the lyric can be heard over the scene: "seems like a thousand years since we broke the ties."
While Fish is sitting at the dinner table with his sister's family, Matt (Josh Gad) talks about how he got accepted to MIT. The same year this film was released, Josh Gad also starred in 21 (2008) and played the part of an MIT student who was best friends with the main character.
The trivia items below may give away important plot points.
During Vesuvius' lip syncing at their concert, Jason Sudeikis' character says "We have an Ashley Simpson situation." This is referring to Ashley Simpson's lip syncing mishap, which happened while she was performing on Saturday Night Live, of which Sudeikis is a cast member.
