‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Casts Rainn Wilson as Original Series Character Harry Mudd

Star Trek: Discovery” has cast “The Office” alum Rainn Wilson in the role of Harry Mudd, Variety has learned. It is unknown how many episodes Wilson will appear in at this time.

Mudd was a charismatic interstellar con man who had repeated run-ins with the crew of the Enterprise in the original “Star Trek.” The character, who was first played by Roger C. Carmel, also appeared in an episode of “Star Trek: The Animated Series.”

Wilson, in addition to his Emmy-nominated role on “The Office,” starred in the Fox series “Backstrom” and HBO’s “Six Feet Under.” On the film side, he has starred in the indie film “Super,” “The Rocker,” and he will also provide the voice of Gargamel in the upcoming movie “Smurfs: The Lost Village.” He is repped by UTA, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment, and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

‘Spectacular Now’ Producer Tom McNulty Starts Production Division for the Exchange

Veteran producer Tom McNulty, whose credits include “The Spectacular Now,” has been hired by the Exchange to launch its first film development and production division.

The self-funded finance-sales company launched in 2011 by representing Lacey Chabert’s “Slightly Single in L.A.” It has worked on “The Spectacular Now,” “Dear White People,” “Bottle Shock,” “Rob the Mob,” “Swelter,” “The Last Five Years,” and “Obvious Child.”

“By bringing Tom on, we are taking a big step toward our feature film production and development goals,” said the Exchange CEO Brian O’Shea. “We had such a great experience with Tom on ‘The Spectacular Now’ that it was easy to see him as part of the team. Tom’s taste is exceptional, his talent relations are very strong, and he brings to our growing company some outstanding projects. We could not be more excited about his future at The Exchange.”

Former Happy Madison production chief Tom McNulty to lead new initiative.

CEO Brian O’Shea announced on Tuesday the hire of producer Tom McNulty to head the company’s move into film development and production.

McNulty (pictured) previously served at MC2 Entertainment, where he has been collaborating with The Exchange on Thomas Mann comedy Beef, currently in pre-production.

His career highlights to date include president of production at Universal-based Global Produce, where he produced The Spectacular Now starring Miles Teller, Shailene Woodley and Brie Larson. The Exchange also handled sales on that title.

McNulty ran Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment at 20th Century Fox where he produced Date Night and The Rocker and was a production executive on Night At The Museum.

At Sony Pictures, he served as executive vice-president of production for Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, overseeing the entire film slate including Anger Management and 50 First Dates.

CBS Films has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming comedy Dean, which marks the directorial debut of comedian Demetri Martin, who also stars as the title character and wrote the screenplay. The film was the winner of the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival's Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature. CBS Films picked the film up after its world premiere, setting it for limited release on June 2.

Writer/Director/Comedian Demetri Martin stars alongside Academy Award winner Kevin Kline in this comedic and heartfelt tale about a father and son coming to terms with love, loss and everything in between. Dean (Demetri Martin) is an illustrator whose unwillingness to deal with the recent death of his mother means escaping his hometown of New York for an interview with an ad agency in Los Angeles. If you don’t know who Josh Gad is now you really should.  While he’s been around Hollywood for a while now, he was the featured star in “Book of Mormon” and is the voice of Olaf in Frozen.  However, my affinity for Gad began way back in the beginning.   I’m talking back to the year 2008 when he caught his movie break by playing the part of Miles in the movie 21.   Right after 21, he was in the movie “The Rocker” which by the way I think was highly underrated. Gad looked destined to be typecast into the role
