Julia suffers through a terrible script
lor_24 January 2018
Writer-director David Stanley explains in the BTS bonus short subject on this DVD that he's become obsessed with his near-death mystical experience, but that alibi won't cut it for this awful fantasy inflicted on Wicked Pictures contract superstar Julia Ann.

She breaks up with her husband Randy Spears after catching him in the first scene cheating on her with the maid (uncredited Brooke Haven). The scene is poorly directed, with Julia standing in the doorway for nine minutes watching them hump, before Randy finally notices her after his money shot. She declares: "I am taking this house", which turns out to be the "Immoral Proposal" mansion (distinctive oval-paned doors and spiral staircase), used for many hundreds of porn shoots in recent years, here rented way back in 2006.

"Three Months Later" is projected on screen, and Julia has a nightmare in which her teddy bear comes to life, full size (a lady in a bear costume, also revealed in the BTS) and "A Christmas Carol" becomes the film's structure as the bear leads Julia from room to room in her mansion. The bear sarcastically blames Julia over and over for the break-up, revealing Stanley's unfortunate misogynistic streak. For me, the always unsympathetic rotter Spears plays on screen is the bad guy, no matter how much David rails against his beautiful co-star.

Various flashbacks and fantasies occur in the rooms, including a really stupid skit on a cheap blackout set in which Stanley regular Eric Masterson with lots of eye makeup plays a comedy doctor who humps his nurse Cherokee after summarily pushing an old lady patient on the floor to make room on the exam table for their sex act. Other scenes include a stupid masturbation fantasy by Spears, watching a fake large-screen TV, that is merely a frame for a sex threesome taking place behind it (Julia Ann, Tommy Gunn and Roxy DeVille).

Burdened with lousy dialog, this endless nightmare finally ends with Julia waking up to find Spears having returned in real life to her bedroom, with make-up sex ensuing. It's only 90 minutes long, but still seems interminable compared to Stanley's many similar Vivid quickies (70 to 75 minutes apiece) made before he jumped ship to Wicked.

Other than a chance to dwell upstairs at the "Immoral Proposal" mansion, "Rapture in Blue" has little to offer. The sex scenes are brief and mechanical, and the dumping on poor Julia Ann intolerable. Oh yes, Stanley cannot resist indulging his #1 fetish, shared with Spears, as Randy gets a foot job from two lesbians (lovely redhead & blonde duo Justine Juli & Kim Kane) resulting in Spears' familiar cum on the feet shot.
