Some People Will Not Get It
dinglet11 July 2019
Don't take offence at my title - it's not intended to insult anyone. This programme, however, is truly funny.

The cast, veterans of BYU's Studio C, only get better with each endeavour. If you watch some of their early work (see Divine Comedy) you will observe how far they have come. That's not to say that their early stuff was bad - it's just they have matured as a troupe and their production quality has improved tremendously.

The characterisations in this offering are outlandish, from Matt's 'man-boy' to Mallory's I-can't-even-define-what, eat-anything editor, to Whitney's attempts to keep them all on track to make a go of the firm. Honourable mention goes to Stephen, whose character Owen believes himself to be God's gift to women. Whitney (Meek's off-screen wife) must view Owen's antics with some trepidation.

So, take some time. View some of these folks' older efforts, then watch this show. I'm sure, like me, you will be looking forward to another series of Freelancers.

Simple and Hilarious
willmueller142 September 2019
This show has been a must watch every week. Each character is simple and predictable while still being funny and surprising (if that makes sense). What would be the cherry on top is if there was a distinct story line to follow instead a story line for each episode. Jk!Studios is an amazing upcoming family friendly sketch comedy and I cant wait to see how far they go! I hope there is a second season!!

As good as any other sitcom.

It reminds me a lot of New Girl. It features funny enough characters, although I don't appreciate how little Jason Gray, Natalie, and Jeremy Warner are used. Arizona is a great lead. She shows confidence and boldness in a way that displays humor so creatively. Ryan is an absolutely great addition. Never really to plot relevant, except for Season 2's premier episode, but he still has his moments, and always get a laugh with his child-like humor. Micah doesn't get a ton of lines but I really appreciate his relatability, even if the moments when that comes up are far and few between.

Overall the show is great. The only reason it isn't a 10/10 is because often the plot of the show kinda falls apart, and it's saved by a really bad ending, like a miracle switch where no matter what goes wrong, the characters are saved by some random gesture.

Hilariously entertaining
fontnote24 December 2020
It's witty, funny, clean, and entertaining. You wonder at each episode how things are going to turn out. The writing is smooth as well. Matt Meese is one of my favorite actors! Scott Stirling will forever live!

Simple, relatable and hilarious
jclarkeduncan14 June 2019
Each of the characters presented are deceptively simple, each carrying a role that allows the interactions between them to be guessed at, yet each consistently and pleasantly surprises the audience with a laugh, whether they saw the joke coming or not. Jk!Studios is an amazing upcoming sketch comedy, and I can't wait to see where they go.

The kind of humor that will grow on you

The first time I watched this, I thought it was kind of funny. Every time after, I've been rolling on the floor dying. Great re-watch value; I'm always catching new jokes I missed at first.

A NEWFOUND FAVORITE!
crystalwilson-9260720 July 2023
I recently took the time to watch Freelancers after having seen it on the Angel Studios app for a while. Honestly, I am so glad I took the time to watch it because it's not only cute, spunky and clean but it's my kind of comedy! I love it!! I think it's well written and I love all of the actors and how they portray each character. I can't wait to introduce my husband to this show because I know that he's going to love it as well. I'd also like to mention that I'm so thankful for Angel Studios and the save, family friendly content they provide. I feel like I can trust that my children are safe and that they aren't going to be exposed to something that I do not approve of. Anyway, if you're looking for a good wholesome comedy then this is the show for you!

Frustrating: So Much Potential!
VertigoOne12 June 2019
This comedy troupe has some talent. James Perry, for one, is a fun character comedian - the bisque guy and the library janitor come to mind. Sadly, he is underused and rarely given roles that suit his style. Likewise, Matt Meese is probably good enough to have a career outside of YouTube and possesses a sharp sense of comic timing in nearly every role he's given. Mallory Everton is best when she is awkward and goofy, Stephen Meek when he is clueless, Stacey Harkey when he is Instagram-obsessed, Natalie Madsen when she is birdbrained, Adam when he is dressed ridiculously, and Whitney Call when she is... being bossy?

First of all, and I hate to say this, it's all too obvious that this is an amateur comedy troupe. While each cast member has a strength, they seem reluctant to typecast any of their members. For example, imagine if The Office decided to constantly change up Dwight's character from episode to episode. One day he is the stereotypical geek, the next day a self-absorbed jock - it would feel totally wrong. Imagine if they had fleshed out Creed's character and made him more prominent in the show - it would have spoiled the 'unwritten rules of the Office Universe' one of which is 'Creed must always be mysterious and predictable no matter what.' When characters and actors constantly act 'outside of character' the humor loses its sense of logic. For things to be funny, there has to be a logical context and sense of risk in which the jokes exist. In I Love Lucy, Lucy Ricardo is funny because you are imagining 'what will Ricky think when he gets home?!' Stan Laurel is funny because you're thinking 'what will Oliver Hardy think?' There must be a straight man as well as a logical, predictable universe for these people to exist inside of. This is why I feel that episode 1 of Freelancers had the only truly funny jokes.

At first, Natalie's boss character was a little absurd and funny; by the end of the episode, she had totally derailed and was offensively stupid. James' character was relatable and funny - the pencil bit was funny but ultimately dwelt on for too long. The bed sheet sketch worked - it was relatable and well timed. I loved how during the first half, each character seemed to have a way of thinking and it fit the actors very well - it was exciting to watch!

Although the episode started off funny and I laughed out loud several times, it fell apart half way through, and this absurdity and stupidity has continued through eight episodes. I feel stupid for watching the episodes. I wish I could love JK! Studios. I'm aware that Studio C has had countless uninspired sketches ,but every once in a while they would strike gold: Scott Sterling, Lobster Bisque, Labor Pains, TV show parodies, the Kyle sketches, etc.

I've seen every Studio C sketch several times and I plan to continue watching JK! Studios. They fill a niche in the entertainment industry: clean, clever comedy for all ages. It's nice to be able to binge on YouTube videos without worrying about profanity, crudity, sexual humor, or other things. This is why I love Studio C and plan to continue watching JK! Studios. I believe they need to improve some things if they are going to move to the next level. Their writing has become totally stale, the actors are too self-aware, the jokes lack cleverness, they come across as totally insecure (how many times do they have to try to convince the world of their smartness by adding cliché, tongue-in-cheek social and political commentaries?), they don't play according to their strengths, there is a shortage of inner logic to their universes, and they run jokes into the ground. It's frustrating to see such a talented group of people act so amateurishly and immaturely - sometimes their shows have the same flaws as a six-year-old comedy routine: sure, they're creative, but it's not cute to make these mistakes when you're in your thirties.

If they can get out of this rut, play according to their strengths, and rediscover their inspiration, they could be an unstoppable force. Saturday Night Live! is dying and people are hungry for clean, apolitical humor. Matt and James are absolute treasures and could be the keys to their superstardom if only they'd use them.

Just some honest thoughts. Good luck, JK! Studios! I'd love to change my rating, so prove me wrong.

Like a worse reboot of Silicon Valley (2014)
sting-521522 November 2021
It is a fun idea and concept. Struggling young company, different interesting characters and vivid pace - BUT: there's to much Ghostbusters 2016 style humor in it. Loud, lowbrow und annoyingly unfunny jokes. This ripoff of Silicon Valley (2014) had much more potential if it just took its audience's intelligence more serious instead of treating them like 14 year olds with learning difficulties.

If you wanted a painfully bad version of Detroiters . . .
heidiyfritz17 July 2023
Then this show is your answer! Seriously, it feels like someone had AI watch Detroiters and then you asked the AI to make it both unfunny and clean and AI succeeded. It's just pathetic that Christian entertainment seems to solely rely on unoriginality and simply takes good secular material and just makes it awful. As far as I know, the show never gets religious but it's made by BYU alumni and is "family-friendly." Surely, someone talented could make clean and funny content, but this is not it. They are really betting on their viewers never seeing the worldly creations they jacked and I guess the chances of that are slim, to be fair.

Used to have talent
sunisfun-993727 January 2022
Even Hollywood actors at least the good ones know to walk away while you're still something rather than beating a dead horse. They needed to leave studio C after season 7 while they were still liked. But no, they went on few more seasons then started over on this joke of a show. There is no talent, no quality to this crap and these people all look like homeless hobos now. JK studios is junk studios at it's worst. Y'all don't have to grow up we know that's overrated but be but at least know the difference between quality and trash.
