'Vampire Diaries'' bartender Sean Faris packs on the muscle

Sean Faris, who guest stars on The CW's supernatural hit "The Vampire Diaries," might play a mere human on the show, but he's still physically impressive.
Check out the 27-year-old actor's shirtless cover shot of Men's Health magazine for proof.
Faris, who will play the sexy new bartender at the Mystic Grill named Ben when The CW show returns in the new year, packed on 15 pounds of muscle for the mixed martial arts film "Never Back Down" and has maintained his physique for "The Vampire Diaries."
"You don't have to kill yourself," Faris tells the magazine about his workouts. "But when you walk into that weight room, you have to be ready to work."
He goes on to offer fitness tips for lifting weights, but also for the diet. Our favorite bit of food advice? Cheat big.

On October 24th, The Terror Film Festival Claw Awards took place at the Ethical Society Building on the famous Rittenhouse Square of Philadelphia.
The 4th season brought in the most astounding talent from all over the USA, as well as, the world. The assemblage of fans, filmmakers, screenwriters, and industry professionals, waited in anticipation, and all bets were on, as the illustrious Claw and the beautiful Princess Horror stood onstage, envelopes in hand, to present the coveted awards.

Two weeks and $480 million later, Summit Entertainment -- the small indie studio who prior to Twilight mania was best known for modest filmed entertainments like Never Back Down and Sex Drive -- are now left with a two-headed challenge: one, finding a place to stow that obnoxious amount of New Moon money, and two, figuring out the best way to make even more. The series's third chapter, Eclipse, is already in post-production, where it will eventually receive its finishing coat of vampire glitter and be buffed to a high sheen before rolling off the assembly line this coming June. (Yes, June. It will be a good half-decade before you'll not be hearing which team is up or down in the Northwestern Hunky Monster Conference.)

Old school video game fans are not going to be happy with this! A trailer for the live-action adaptation of the classic Snk 2D fighting game The King of Fighters has surfaced online and it looks as though it’s a serious contender for the worst video game-to-film adaptation ever made.
Starring Sean Faris (Never Back Down), Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard), Will Yun Lee (Elektra), and martial arts expert Ray Park (Darth Maul from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace), The King of Fighters is directed by Gordon Chan, who although was behind the terrible Jackie Chan film The Medallion, also made the much loved Jet Li classic Fist of Legend.
The film’s premise is wildly different from the game it’s based upon. According to Movieset:

Hey look, it's another low budget video game adaptation that's got direct-to-dvd written all over it! The King of Fighters is based on a series of fighting games that was first released for the Neo Geo console and in arcades back in the mid-'90s. Since the Neo Geo was the uber-expensive video game system that only rich kids had, I never really got into it, but they're still making new installments today so it's definitely got a following. The movie doesn't seem to be based on the plot of any one particular game, and according to Wikipedia [1], has a sci-fi twist that involves members of three legendary fighting clans who get transported to alternate dimensions where they must fight the inhabitants of each world. This promo trailer, however, doesn't convey much of a plot at all.

This promo trailer for Gordon Chan's upcoming King of Fighters---yes, yet another fighting game film adaptation---is both simultaneously hilarious in its total cheese-factor, and also totally depressing when you remember that this guy directed Fist of Legend. Our friends over at Quiet Earth dug up this trailer, and I agree with them that this looks like the second coming of Corey Yuen's D.O.A: Dead or Alive.
That could either be great news, terrible news, or a bit of both. I'm leaning towards the latter.
Even as a fan of the Snk King of Fighters video game series that this film is based on, I can barely tell what's going on in this trailer. CW's 'Vampire Diaries' casts a new pretty boy for multiple episodes. Zap2it is reporting that the CW's hit breakout vampire show "Vampire Diaries" has cast Sean Faris who starred in the fighting movie, "Never Back Down" last year, to come play a new human on the show.
He will be playing a sexy bartender named Ben,and he will somehow get mixed up with vampire business and one of the girls on the show.

I love Korean gangster films. While there are filmmakers like Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho, the one film that really opened my eyes was The Chaser, which I saw back in 2008, and is why I'm writing about this one. I don't know anything about A Dirty Carnival, but I dig that title and the plot and will be seeking it out as soon as I can. Variety reports that the 2006 film, written and directed by Yoo Ha, is being remade by Sparkler Entertainment (National Treasure) and Cj Entertainment, the big Korean company behind most of Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook's films. Chris Hauty (Never Back Down) will be writing the script.

The producers behind National Treasure have bought the rights to remake Korean gangster drama A Dirty Carnival.
We doubt it'll keep that name (it sounds more like a perverted circus movie than a crime pic),but it'll likely keep the rough plot intact - a small time debt collector for the triads finds his fortunes rising but his own family swirling into debt.
Sparkler Entertainment (which helped bring the world Nicolas Cage's code-cracking adventures) is producing, and has hired Never Back Down writer Chris Hauty to tap out a script....

According to Variety, Sparkler Entertainment (National Treasure) and Cj Entertainment are coming together for an English-language remake of the 2006 Korean gangster film A Dirty Carnival.
Chris Hauty (Never Back Down) is going to write the script.
Cj Entertainment made the original film which was directed and written by Yoo Ha. The story centers on the rise and fall of a small-time hood, who works for a Korean triad collecting debts but is also against the wall by his family's own financial crisis.

CBS Acquires Sleeper Spy

Variety.com is reporting that CBS Films has acquired the script for “Sleeper Spy” a fast-paced espionage thriller by Anthony Jaswinski. Jeff Wadlow, who previously directed “Never Back Down” for Summit, is attached to direct the spy project.
Arnold and Anne Kopelson of Kopelson Entertainment are onboard to produce “Sleeper Spy”.
The Houston-based company Equus Total Return will be financing the thriller project, which is going to center around a mysterious and shadowy plot to assassinate a political figure, and the race against time to stop it from happening.

It might just be a result of having seen Surrogates, which uses a boring conspiracy plot to ruin a great sci-fi concept, but I've pretty much had it with movies about unraveling large-scale conspiracies or plots of any kind. I realize they're the backbone of every single action film made this decade, but isn't there a way to have an action movie without some kind of secret plot to destroy the world?
CBS Films at least has no interest in helping me out here. According to Variety they've picked up the thriller Sleeper Spy, Anthony Jaswinski's script about a plot to assassinate a political figure. Jeff Wadlow, who made the high school fight movie Never Back Down, has signed on to direct. CBS Films president Amy Baer asked for major changes in the storyline when the studio acquired the film, which could mean that they've made it even more generic,

CBS Films has picked up "Sleeper Spy," a thriller written by Anthony Jaswinski which Jeff Wadlow ("Never Back Down," "Cry_Wolf") is directing.
Kopelson Entertainment's Arnold Kopelson will produce alongside his partner Anne Kopelson. The film tells of a plot to assassinate a political figure.
Kopelson told Daily Variety "Amy has literally functioned as our partner in the development of this screenplay."
CBS' next project is the Dwayne Johnson starrer "Faster."

It's a natural progression from teen fight movie Never Back Down to asssasination thriller, apparently, with the news that director Jeff Wadlow has signed on to Sleeper Spy, a new thriller for CBS Films.All we know about the film is that it centres on an assassination attempt on a political figure. We're going to go ahead and wildly speculate that it's more Shooter and less Day of the Jackal though, but what we're really secretly hoping is that it's a sequel to Never Back Down and the whole assassination attempt isn't through bombing or sharp-shooting but through the medium of mixed martial arts fighting.Anthony Jaswinski, who wrote the upcoming Vanishing on 7th Street (set to star Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo), wrote the script.
