The "bar fight" was set as one page of dialogue , director (Corey Piper) sensed that Lang and Golding were escalating the scene beyond the script and decided to let the cameras continue to roll. The scene includes the "off the cuff" dialogue and is one of the most powerful scenes in the movie.
The police station used in the film was an abandoned back room of a functioning police station. The room was completely empty and set dressed by the art department to resemble a functioning station.
This is not the first time Lang and Beech have played police opposite each other, having previously played Detectives Kinderman and Doyle (respectively) in Westside Justice.
Lang has worked with Piper Films on two previous projects, Constructing Australia (Wire Through the Heart) and a major TV commercial for the Health Commission.
Some of the stories in Dark Blue were so confrontational that several cast members were not able to read the entire script, skipping pages to scenes to witch they were involved in.
