Cop Car’s Kevin Bacon Wants You To Join The Free The Bacon Movement

4 August 2015 2:35 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Cop Car star Kevin Bacon has a bone to pick with you, Hollywood. Male actors are rarely given the opportunity to be gratuitously naked, and it’s not fair.

But that’s all going to change now with the #FreeTheBacon movement.

Find out how you can help in this funny video and join the movement.

Kevin Bacon (The Following, HBO’s Taking Chance, Mystic River) stars in director Jon Watts’ delightful throwback thriller Cop Car.

When two good-natured but rebellious young boys (James Freedson-Jackson and Hays Wellford) stumble across an abandoned cop car hidden in a secluded glade they decide to take it for a quick joyride. Their bad decision unleashes the ire of the county sheriff (Bacon) and leads to brutal consequences.

The film also stars Shea Whigham, James Freedson-Jackson, Hays Welford and Camryn Manheim.

Cop Car opens in theatres August 7, 2015 and On Demand and Digital HD August »

There are a lot of great movies arriving on VOD for the month of August, which should undoubtedly please all you genre fans who love to catch on some of the best indie horror and sci-fi titles from the comfort of your own homes. We kick things off with The Last Survivors from Dark Sky Films and the very same day, Uncork’d Entertainment is unleashing their werewolf flick Dark Moon Rising which stars Eric Roberts.

On August 7th, A24 is planning on taking viewers to some Dark Places, and we’ve got a handful of movies arriving in mid-month including the thriller Cop Car starring Kevin Bacon and the stylized revenge tale Final Girl featuring the always great Abigail Breslin. A few days later, SpectreVision’s The Boy arrives on VOD and one of my personal favorite films of 2015, the spunky post-apocalyptic action adventure tale Turbo Kid, will be released on August 28th. »

Cop Car Trailer: Don’t Mess with Creepy Kevin Bacon

27 May 2015 11:31 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Focus World has released the first trailer for the indie thriller Cop Car, and the moral of the story seems to be, “Don’t mess with creepy guys who have mustaches.” The film follows two young boys who stumble across an abandoned cop car and decide to take it on a joy ride. However, when the county sheriff discovers them, brutal consequences ensue. The movie actually looks quite good, with a tone in line with a Coen Brothers film and a menacing performance by Kevin Bacon. It’s a bit like Stand By Me, only with a horror movie twist. Check out the Cop Car trailer below, via Yahoo! Movies, and click here to read Matt's review from Sundance. Written by Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford and directed by Watts, the movie also stars Shea Whigham, Camryn Manheim, James Freedson-Jackson, and Hays Welford. Cop Car will be released in »

The Movies That Changed My Life: 'Adult Beginners' Director Ross Katz

1 May 2015 9:03 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

As the Oscar-nominated producer of "In The Bedroom" and "Lost In Translation," and director of brooding HBO movie "Taking Chance," Ross Katz has come off as a Very Serious Dude on paper. That is, until now. The director has taken a much lighter approach with his feature-length theatrical debut, "Adult Beginners." The story follows a man whose life has hit a crossroads, forcing him to move in with this sister so he can try and get himself together. And it's a charmer, a film with its heart in the right place, featuring comedic chemistry bursting between Nick Kroll, Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale (read our review). Moreover, it's always great to see a talent who can balance the serious and the funny with ease. Katz’ previous experience in drama helps “Adult Beginners” resonate on an emotional level, coming off as refreshingly deep in the way it spreads the theme of »

Interview: Nick Kroll Starts it Up in ‘Adult Beginners’

23 April 2015 9:15 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Finding the adult button and hitting “on” is becoming more of a challenge as the tech generation morphs into their thirtysomething era. Comedian Nick Kroll (“Kroll Show,” “The League”) ponders this situation in the new film “Adult Beginners,” a primer on growing up and moving on.

Kroll portrays Jake, a entrepreneur whose new tech gadget goes bust. Left with no life and no income, he moves back in with his sister (Rose Byrne) and brother-in-law (Bobby Cannavale). There is a twist – Jake’s nephew Teddy needs a daytime caregiver, and Nick is now available. As he takes on his new duties, he begins to understand that life has different angles, especially when it comes to raising children.

Arrested Development: Katz’s Debut an Affectionate Familial Dramedy

A familiar yet generally charming vehicle that impressively utilizes a pair of actors known mostly from a mainstream comedic realm, Adult Beginners is a low-key dramedy assembled from unpredictable voices. Premiering at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival before making its Us bow at SXSW earlier in 2015, it serves as producer Ross Katz’s feature debut (previously he directed the 2009 television drama Taking Chance, starring Kevin Bacon), with Nick Kroll credited with the story, and a screenplay penned by Liz Flahive (“Nurse Jackie”) and Jeff Cox (Blades of Glory, 2007). Neither as broadly comedic or serious minded as the credits would seem to indicate, the title serves as an estranged sibling reunion film that plays like the lighter, rosy faced cousin of last year’s The Skeleton Twins. Produced by the increasingly philanthropic Duplass Bros., the film displays the sort of vibrant charm »

'La La Land' May Reunite Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone

14 April 2015 6:08 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are both circling the romantic musical La La Land. We first reported on the project back in June 2014, when Miles Teller and Emma Watson were attached to star, but Miles Teller has moved on and Emma Watson was forced to drop out due to her commitment to Disney's Beauty and the Beast. No deals are finalized for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone quite yet, but Deadline reports that all parties are trying to make this happen.

The story centers on the budding romance between a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress in modern-day Los Angeles. While both quickly fall for one another, they discover how difficult it is to maintain a relationship along with their artistic endeavors. If both stars sign on, the plan is to move forward and start production sometime this fall. The project would also mark the third movie Ryan Gosling and »

Exclusive Interview With Rose Byrne And Ross Katz On Adult Beginners

22 March 2015 7:27 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Amidst all the screenings, review writing, and foodie adventures that kept me busy at this year’s South by Southwest festival, I also found some time to sneak a few interviews into my schedule (as you can tell by what I’ve been posting these last few days). I’ve already published my interview with Nick Kroll and Bobby Cannavale on their new film, Adult Beginners, and now I’ve got the second round of talent who were in Austin promoting the film – Rose Byrne and director Ross Katz.

I sat down with Rose and Ross to talk about the phenomenon of Adult Beginners, seeing that people now explore much different paths than our ancestors from past generations. You can read on to hear about what drew both talents to the project, what each person turns to when in need of an escape, and the struggles of filming during one »

Adult Beginners Trailer Features Rose Byrne, Nick Kroll And Bobby Cannavale

13 March 2015 11:23 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

A young, hipster entrepreneur (Nick Kroll) crashes and burns on the eve of his company’s big launch. With his entire life in disarray, he leaves Manhattan to move in with his estranged pregnant sister (Rose Byrne), brother-in-law (Bobby Cannavale) and three year-old nephew in the suburbs — only to become their manny. Faced with real responsibility, he may finally have to grow up — but not without some bad behavior first.

From director Ross Katz, here’s the new trailer for Adult Beginners.

Katz made his directorial debut with the HBO film “Taking Chance.” Beginning as a film producer, the Adult Beginners director said, “My dream came true when a script called “Brother’s Keeper” (now titled “Adult Beginners”) landed on my desk. Written by the brilliant Liz Flahive and Jeff Cox, with a story originated by comedian and actor Nick Kroll, I was absolutely blown away as I tore through the script. »

Nick Kroll Moves in with Rose Byrne in 'Adult Beginners' Trailer

12 March 2015 8:07 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

If you're familiar with Nick Kroll, then you're probably used to his wacky characters that he brings to life on "The Kroll Show," which is in the middle of finishing its third and final season on Comedy Central, or his fantasy football antics on "The League." But in the trailer for the indie Adult Beginners, Kroll shows a less goofy and more serious side in the story of an entrepreneur whose life and career is a mess after a massive failure. In an attempt to figure things out, he moves in with his sister (Rose Byrne) and her husband (Bobby Cannavale) and their little boy. Basically, this looks like something the Duplass Brothers would direct, or even a slightly more accessible Joe Swanberg, and that's definitely a compliment. Watch below! Here's the first trailer for Ross Katz's Adult Beginners from EW: Adult Beginners is directed by Ross Katz (Taking Chance »

Top Ten Most Anticipated Films of the 2015 SXSW Film Festival

10 March 2015 3:13 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

The South by Southwest Film Festival is starting up this Friday, and I could not be more excited. This is my fourth year of attending the fest, and each year brings about a couple of films I love. What is also great about SXSW is, unlike Toronto or Cannes, there is plenty of room for discovery. Many films are making their world premieres here from lesser known filmmakers. SXSW also brings together an eclectic assortment of genres for the program, from indie dramas to horror films to science-fiction to you name it. I think going to those aforementioned festivals and just seeing "prestige pictures" continuously could get a bit boring. Sure, SXSW has a higher risk for a terrible movie, but the risk is exciting. Consequently, making a most anticipated list for a festival offering a lot of discoveries seems like a contradiction. But, of course, if you look through the program, »

A Veteran’s View of ‘American Sniper’ (Guest Column)

16 January 2015 12:30 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Paul Rieckhoff is CEO and founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (Iava), an Iraq veteran, and the author of “Chasing Ghosts: Failures and Facades in Iraq: A Soldier’s Perspective.” He offers his thoughts on Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper” in a guest column.

I’ve seen just about every film about the Iraq War ever made. I’ve produced and associate produced a few. I even appeared in one (for about a millisecond). And without a doubt, “American Sniper” is the single best work of film about the Iraq War ever made.

Now, it’s not the most complex film. Not the deepest film. Not even the most provocative. But in terms of storytelling, action, emotion, production and performance, attention to detail and especially the frighteningly accurate soundscape, there’s been nothing else close that’s been made since my platoon entered the war in Iraq »
