Aaron Sims directorial debut is a CGI driven story of an artist gone mad in his work. Gabe (Brian Kirkwood) portrays a less-than-believable self supported artist who lives with his estranged wife/girlfriend Liz. (Pauli Pettit) Throughout the piece Gabe fluctuates between moments of intensity and madness while Liz watches (mostly from a distance) at her man's slow painful descent into madness. While Pettits' performance was certainly wide-ranged and on target throughout the piece, one could not help but notice Kirkwoods' tendency to break away from the films pentameter, which left us asking who the actual lead of the film was. All in all the performance of Pettit out-shined that of Kirkwood though choppy cuts in dialogue left me hanging at some scene breaks. The CGI work was splendid throughout the piece and for Sims first directorial was a quality piece throughout. I look forward to seeing more of his work as well as more work featuring Pettit, who shows serious promise in years to come.
I give this movie a 5 out of 10 and would recommend it for an interesting concept piece if you want to see some nice CGI work and a predictable yet entertaining ending.
Cheers,
Jack
