Storyline

Both being national security agencies, the CIA and CONTROL have a sometimes friendly, sometimes not so friendly rivalry. CONTROL may now have the upper hand in the rivalry when Bruce and Lloyd, two of their nerdish inventors working in the gadgets laboratory, are close to perfecting their optical camouflage technology (OCT), aka an invisibility cloak. This is much to the chagrin of their counterparts at the CIA, Bob and Howard. The more personal rivalry between Bruce/Lloyd and Bob/Howard is fostered by their respective bosses, who happen to be competitive twin brothers. Bruce and Lloyd may be in deep trouble when their only prototype of the OCT goes missing. They initially believe that Bob and Howard may have it or worse that it has fallen into the hands on CONTROL's arch enemy, KAOS. But they discover that it was stolen by a beautiful woman named Isabella, working for her country, Maraguay. Bruce and Lloyd, with Bruce's girlfriend and fellow CONTROL technology geek Nina at their side... Written by Huggo

Lloyd: Bruce, what?
Agent 99: [In Russia, annoyed] What exactly did I do to tick you off so much, Bruce?
Lloyd: This isn't Bruce, it's Lloyd.
Agent 99: Whatever!
Lloyd: Listen, I'm kind of busy right now...
Agent 99: Oh, oh, hey hey! I am out here in Podunk, Russia trying to save the free world, and everytime I turn around Max is pulling out some new gadget that I don't have!

An average straight to DVD outing for Bruce and Lloyd
7 April 2015 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

There is nothing hugely wrong with this film. As a straight two DVD outing for the two geeky gadget guys from 2008's 'Get Smart' it makes for an amiable enough 68 minutes. There are a few twists and some good laughs. What more can we ask for? Nate Torrence, who was so good in Studio 60 and Mr Sunshine is great as Bruce, and most of the big laughs come from him.

The plot stands up (just) and works both as a stand alone film or when linked in with the main 'Get Smart' film. To be honest I don't know why they just didn't release both together on DVD and be done with it.

The main issue is that this film feels like a straight to DVD outing or worse a short mini film before the real one gets started. The performances are all there, but crucially it is lacking that bit of spit and polish to make it a decent film.
