There are some good points in this Hank Mann comedy done for Arrow -- they distributed through States Rights, and produced a good series of comedies from second-ranked comedians: derivative works, but solidly done.
The first half of this looks a bit like Hank and Vernon Dent are channeling the old Ham & Bud series as they work in the basement of a candy shop where they turn out the most unsanitary candy imaginable -- about like SAUERKRAUT SYMPHONY, but without the sheer hatred of the Kalem series -- Dent was a capable second banana and supporting comedian for everyone and worked steadily until he went blind from diabetes.
That part is fairly standard knockabout comedy, but in the second half, a batch of gum that Hank is selling has been spiked with bootleg whiskey, and all the saloons have been closed -- so he is pursued by hardcore alcoholics in a lovely little chase sequence.
You may find the first half a little trying to get through -- it's all be done before and it's rather disgusting, but the second half makes it all worth while.
