- TriviaThe title is from the commonly expected demand from one encountering an extraterrestrial being or alien from outer space.
- GoofsMiss Smith (Barbara Lord) is preparing for the arrival of a film crew and begins by using a light meter to aid the photographers. She holds it up next to Maynard with the white, hemispheric sensor at the top. After a cut to a closeup of the fearful Maynard with his hand on the doorknob trying to leave, Miss Smith is now holding the light meter with the white hemispheric sensor at the bottom.
- Quotes
Maynard G. Krebs: Where'd they go?
Dobie Gillis: Who?
Maynard G. Krebs: Your Mom and Dad.
Dobie Gillis: Oh, to the movies.
Maynard G. Krebs: Oooh, I wish I was down at the Bijou like your Mom and Dad. I'd be sittin', eatin' my popcorn, all settled down in one of them furry, red seats, watchin' that great movie.
Zelda Gilroy: What great movie?
Maynard G. Krebs: 'The Monster that Devoured Cleveland'. Oooh, man, it's a gas.
Dobie Gillis: Maynard, how many times have you seen 'The Monster that Devoured Cleveland'?
Maynard G. Krebs: You mean this year?
Zelda Gilroy: Maynard, don't you ever see any picture except 'The Monster that Devoured Cleveland'?
Maynard G. Krebs: Like, of course.
Zelda Gilroy: Like what?
Maynard G. Krebs: Like, 'The Son of The Monster that Devoured Cleveland'.

Why we love Dobie Gillis. This is a totally off the wall episode, and one of the best, if you're into spooky, sci fi stories. It all begins on a dark and stormy night when Dobie and Maynard are patrolling the barracks, relating a weird story to Sgt. Wyncoup (Dick Bakalyan).
Dobie, Maynard and Zelda are at the store one mysterious night (Mr. And Mrs. Gillis went to see a sci fi movie!) -- and strange things start to happen. The subject is aliens from outer space, Zelda suggesting that they probably would look like earthlings, so they would blend in...
Not a bad idea, until a strange lady called Jane Smith (well played by Barbara Lord) enters the store and makes a very strange phone call, talking about "the town being the right place?" The right place for WHAT?
Maynard talks Dobie and Zelda into thinking she's from outer space! No sooner than that happens, Mr. And Mrs. Gillis return from the movies, Herb pretending he's a martain? --just for kicks?
EVERYONE goes nuts. Run for your lives!
It turns out Jane is actually connected to a film company, and she's scouting the area to produce their next big sci fi movie! Really goofy stuff mixed with some good dialogue. Look for comedian Alan Carney playing the film producer, Mr. Nicholby. Carney was part of the famous Brown and Carney movie comedy team of the 40s.
Fun note about Dick Bakalyan; he actually appeared in some cult films, such as THE COOL AND THE CRAZY and JUVENILE JUNGLE. A popular character actor for decades.
Well written by Larry and Maggie Williams, who wrote eight episodes for the show. SEASON 2 EPISODE 35.
