Bowled over!

The penultimate episode of Season 1 of this underrated show.

Brian is back home, and boring people to death by talking endlessly about his recent Spanish holiday. When neighbour 'Mrs.Flensing' ( Hilary Mason ) arrives, he shows her slides. Ralph is in every one of them. Meanwhile, Ralph is desperately trying to find Brian and berates his staff when they cannot find a contact address. Eventually, he tracks him down to a dusty basement where the staff beaver away in Dickensian conditions. Brian is thrilled to see his friend again and accepts an offer of lunch at the Oval. Ralph cheekily parks in the spot reserved for England Captain Mike Brearley...

After five first-rate episodes, 'The Other One' stalled slightly in bringing its main characters back home. The scope for Ralph's lies is somewhat reduced, along with the comedy. It is still good to watch though. Ralph offers Brian a job with his company. Brian turns him down, much to Ralph's disgust, but events soon dictate a change of mind. The place where Brian works - 'Moribund Records' - put me in mind of those Kenny Everett sketches purporting to feature the Board of Governors of the B.B.C. About the only thing missing is the cobwebs!

Funniest moment - Brian tells his pompous boss 'Mr.Pemberton' ( Lockwood West ) where to stick his job, and then suddenly remembers he does not know where to find Ralph in order to accept his offer of employment!
