Romeo
13 December 2009 | by (New York) – See all my reviews

Awakening from a long coma, Kim Jacobi, is interviewed by the Cold Case team. Her family was killed in a mysterious crime that had puzzled the authorities. Kim seems to hold the key to solving a case. Three members of the Jacobi family have been killed and Kim is the only survivor, in spite of having been shot, as well. The only problem after waking up is that Kim has suffered such a trauma, she hardly remembers much. The detectives are relentless in trying to solve the case.

As we go back to the recent past, Kim and her family are seen in their new surroundings. They have come from Cincinnati, where her father was a computer programmer. Now in Philadelphia, he finds himself unemployed with a wife and two children and little possibilities to get ahead. Kim's high school days start with a strange note signed by someone named Romeo. The only boy Kim had really met is Rick, obviously not the one that wrote the note she finds taped to her locker.

As Kim's chat records are retrieved, another intriguing fact is brought to life. Her online chat with a friendly individual turns out to be her own mother, who had assumed the identity to comfort Kim. The young girl begins getting phone calls from someone that is also stalking the house, evidently, the elusive Romeo.

Ellen Rush, staying at Lilly's house, has a conversation with her daughter about the book she used to read when the detective was a young girl. Lilly discovers the body of Ellen later in the day. She blames herself for not being there for her, while Scotty tries to console her.

The unexpected arrival of Kim with the male nurse, Ed Martenson, at the Cold Case department, brings a new dynamic to the case. Ed turns out to be the man that really knows a lot for solving the crime.

Alex Zakrzewski directed this installment. Veena Cabreros Sud and Liz Garcia wrote the screenplay. This is the final appearance of the sublime Meredith Baxter in the series. Although not a big role for Ms. Baxter in any way, her presence as Lilly's alcoholic mother is felt by her approach to the tormented woman.

The rest of the players, especially Ellen Woglom, who plays Kim, and Joe Reegan, seen as the male nurse Ed Martenson, do a fine job for the director.
