Kevin Smith Reveals First Details on His Next Project Helena Handbag

30 December 2013 6:55 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It wasn't too long ago that Kevin Smith announced that he would retire from directing. With Clerks III in the works and his upcoming horror-comedy Tusk restarting production, the filmmaker is showing no signs of slowing down. Earlier today, the director announced his next project, entitled Helena Handbag, which, like Tusk, is based off a story from one of his SModcast episodes. Take a look at a photo of the script's title page, along with the director's lengthy message to his fans that he posted on his Facebook page earlier today, where he goes into detail about his future as a filmmaker, the story behind Helena Handbag and even an update on when Clerks III begins shooting.

"For All Those Who Tried To #BeatChristzilla

The non-buried lead: I'm writing this new flick based on another episode of SModcast from 2008. Also: I talk about my future in filmmaking. If you feel »

Kevin Smith Reveals Man-Walrus Creature From His Movie 'Tusk'

18 November 2013 3:15 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Kevin Smith always seems to be threatening retirement without ever actually pulling the trigger. Remember his two-part hockey movie? Or what about "Clerks III?" Well, a recent idea that he has apparently followed through on is called "Tusk." The movie was inspired by a Gumtree ad the director read on one of his podcasts. The ad was for a room, with the only condition being that the lodger dress as a walrus for two hours a day. Smith turned this into a more horrific tale of an old sea captain who slowly turns a hostage into a human/walrus hybrid. Yes, this is actually the plot of the movie, from the director of "Zack and Miri Make A Porno."

Yesterday, Smith posted an Instagram photo of a blood-splattered schematic showing the human/walrus creature. It's a pretty wonderful image, but how it will be executed remains to be seen. Along with the photo, »

Epic Meal Time's Harley Morenstein joins Kevin Smith's Tusk

5 November 2013 2:51 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Kevin Smith may have already begun shooting his body shock horror/comedy Tusk, but he hasn't finished the casting with Epic Meal Time frontman Harley Morenstein joining.

Although there's no word on the role he is playing, The Sauce Boss confirmed that he will appear early on in the film and has "a whole bunch of funny lines." Morenstein has already appeared alongside Kevin Smith in an episode of Epic Meal Time and in truth, anything with the King of Bacon is a reason to be excited.

Tusk stars Michael Parks (Red State) as a lodger who releases an advert for a spare room as long as whomever moves in dresses as a walrus. Justin Long (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) will star as the housemate and Genesis Rodriquez (The Last Stand), Haley Joel Osmont (The Sixth Sense) round up out cast.

Tusk will be released sometime in 2014.

Weekend Report: Good 'Grandpa,' Bad 'Counselor'

27 October 2013 1:01 PM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

After dominating the box office for three-straight weeks, Gravity fell to second place behind Jackass spin-off Bad Grandpa. Meanwhile, Ridley Scott's The Counselor became the latest October release to disappoint with an opening below $10 million. At 3,336 locations, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa opened to a very strong $32.1 million. That's the second-highest start in the Jackass franchise behind Jackass 3-D ($50.4 million); adjusted for ticket price inflation, Bad Grandpa's attendance was about on par with the original Jackass: The Movie.Moviegoers have clearly shown an appetite for comedy this year. Bad Grandpa is the fifth live-action comedy to open over $30 million in 2013, and that list doesn't even include We're the Millers or This is the End (which burned off demand with Wednesday openings).Bad Grandpa's success can be attributed to a number of factors. Even though it was a spin-off, the movie's painful pratfalls and documentary-style footage aligned nicely with the very strong Jackass brand. »

So.......Kevin Smith isn't retiring?

3 July 2013 11:38 AM, PDT | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

We're huge Kevin Smith fans here at The Movie Bit, some of us even got to open for the man when he brought his legendary Evening With show to Dublin (damn you, Vic!), so we were understandably upset when the man announced his retirement from making movies after he brings Clerks III to the big screen. He has been quite adamant that the second sequel to the movie that made his name will be his last, which makes his latest announcement on Facebook all the more confusing. Talking about how waiting for confirmation on whether or not The Weinstein Company would pick up Zack and Miri Make a Porno he wrote Red State, Smith revealed he has done the same while waiting on confirmation from Bob Weinstein about Clerks III. Based on a story from an episode of Smodcast (one i haven't listened to, but once I'm finished here, I »

Seth Rogen

21 June 2013 4:01 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

He made his name playing laidback stoners. Now Seth Rogen has written, directed and produced a send-up of his own super-successful comedy crew. Is it a happy accident – or is he the most driven man in Hollywood?

Seth Rogen is so exactly like his onscreen self that hanging out with him can feel a little like dropping into one of his movies. "Have just been advised Seth only needs 10 mins for grooming," reads one of the emails that shuttle between his publicists and the Guardian's photographer, which sounds about right. The roly-poly figure who turns up a few minutes later in jeans and T-shirt, topped off with jewfro and froggy grin, seems barely to need 10 minutes for anything. "Hey, what's going on?" he says, before settling into a sofa that looks custom-moulded to his contours. He talks in sentences that go up, up, up, up, up like a rollercoaster car, »

Superman Reboot Grossed $3 Million More Than Originally Estimated - Now No.2 Non-Sequel in June (Sort of)

17 June 2013 7:39 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Man of Steel weekend box office: Above estimates, but real June record remains beyond the reach of Superman 2013 reboot (image: Henry Cavill as Superman in Man of Steel) Somewhat surprisingly — it’s usually the other way around — Warner Bros.Man of Steel grossed more than $3 million above studio estimates released on Sunday, June 16, 2013. Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Sucker Punch), and starring Henry Cavill (The Tudors, possibly the upcoming The Man from U.N.C.L.E.), the 2013 Superman reboot scored $116.61 million from 4,207 North American locations according to weekend box-office actuals found at Box Office Mojo. Once Thursday evening figures are added, the $225 million-budgeted Man of Steel‘s domestic cume reached $128.68 million by Sunday evening. Now, Man of Steel‘s adjusted $116.61 million doesn’t change the June Box-Office Record Chart in any way. The Superman reboot remains ahead of the former official June champ, the Tom Hanks-, Tim Allen-voiced Toy Story 3‘s »

'This is the End' (2013) Movie Review

11 June 2013 1:33 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Juvenile humor rules the day, but when This is the End isn't overdoing it it's quite funny. Of course, this is the disposable kind of humor that's valuable for about a week and then forgotten, but if you're looking for a few laughs at the expense of some of today's most notable comedic actors then this 107-minute apocalyptic comedy should satisfy despite a few limitations. Every actor in the film plays themselves. So Seth Rogen is Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel is Jay Baruchel and on down the line, including James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Michael Cera, Emma Watson, Aziz Ansari, Mindy Kaling, David Krumholtz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Rihanna, Paul Rudd, Channing Tatum and I'm sure some others that I've probably forgotten to include, but I think you get the point. The majority of the names above make their appearance and subsequently die in the film's opening third, »

Box Office: Why Did People Stay Away From Tyler Perry's 'Peeples'?

12 May 2013 11:05 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

On paper, "Tyler Perry Presents Peeples" should have done decent business this weekend. Even though he didn't write or direct it, the meet-the-parents comedy had Perry's name on it as producer and promoter. It features two popular TV stars, Craig Robinson and Kerry Washington, in the leads. It's a movie that caters to older women and comedy fans at a time of year (summer superhero season) when both are underserved. It opened on Mother's Day weekend, a good time to catch the family business that Perry targets so effectively. Most of all, as a movie with an all-African-American cast, it seemed like smart counterprogramming to "The Great Gatsby," a movie about white people throwing parties. Perry movies typically open at around $20 million. Pundits predicted "Peeples" would earn at least half that. Instead, it debuted in fourth place, with a meager $4.9 million in estimated sales. It's Perry's weakest opening ever (eclipsing "Daddy's Little Girls, »

Peeples review

7 May 2013 10:08 AM, PDT | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

Craig Robinson and Kerry Washington light comic fireworks in sweet and funny film. Ten feet from stardom sums up comic actor Craig Robinson, ensemble cast member on TV’s The Office and supporting banana on various big-screen comedies including Pineapple Express, Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Hot Tub Time Machine. All of that changes with writer/director Tina Gordon Chism’s romantic comedy Peeples. Finally, Robinson receives a chance in the spotlight and while it’s great for his career it’s even better for moviegoers. Robinson is too funny for exclusion on the supporting player sidelines. His hilarious performance as a low-achieving boyfriend trying to impress his girlfriend’s affluent family makes Peeples the first true surprise of the 2013 summer movie season. »

Why Are We Not Talking About This Seth Rogen And Backstreet Boys Video?

29 April 2013 8:16 AM, PDT | Celebsology | See recent Celebsology news »

Seth Rogen is many things: he's an actor, comedian, guy who makes a sex scene with Elizabeth Banks look really hot in Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and now another member of the Backstreet Boys. The video online was talked about a tiny bit over the weekend, but it hasn't gotten nearly enough attention. During a recent show, the Backstreet guys got Rogen to come on stage for a little "Everybody" dance during the Hilarity for Charity dance.

Henry Cavill Hopes Not To Follow In The Footsteps Of Superman Returns' Brandon Routh

24 April 2013 5:04 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

You would have thought that playing Superman would have opened a lot of doors for Brandon Routh. Instead, his career never seemed to really take off after Bryan Singer's ill-fated take on the DC superhero, despite memorable appearances in the likes of Chuck, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. "I certainly haven't got my mind set on failure," he said when asked by Empire Magazine if he's worried "about pulling a Brandon Routh and disappearing" after the release of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. "That is a bad approach - you want to strive for success." As for what he has lined up next, his schedule is clear, but James Bond is still on his mind. "What a wonderful challenge to follow up Daniel Craig. He has set the bar so high." What would you guys like to see Cavill do after Man of Steel? »

Craig Robinson's Goes Wild In Tyler Perry's Peeples Trailer

22 February 2013 10:37 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

From The Office to Pineapple Express and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, comedian Craig Robinson has been stealthily stealing scenes, regularly knocking it out of the park in supporting roles. In 2010, he memorably co-starred in the hit time-traveling sex-comedy Hot Tub Time Machine alongside John Cusack, and now he's headlining his own the upcoming comedy, called Peeples. Formerly known as We The Peeples, it stars Robinson as a child psychologist who desperately wants to marry his lovely girlfriend (Kerry Washington). She's game, but first he must ask her hand from her very hard to please father played by David Alan Grier. When the couple goes to meet his future in-laws, this shrink discovers the Peeples family is far loonier than any of his patients. Get a glimpse at the mayhem below in the film's first trailer, courtesy of Moviefone: Peeples marks the directorial debut of Tina Gordon Chism, who »

Alamo South Lamar Memories: Fantastic Fest 2008

11 January 2013 8:00 AM, PST | Slackerwood | See recent Slackerwood news »

I moved to Austin from Seattle a little over four years ago. Before I moved to Austin I made sure of one thing: Did Austin have any decent film festivals? Seattle has one of the best  festivals in the country and I didn’t want to go without that annual experience. After some quick research I found SXSW and the Austin Film Festival. Check and check! My high (in my mind) standard was met.

Along with some great film festivals, Austin houses one of the best theatre chains in the Us of A: Alamo Drafthouse! As an avid moviegoer it took me all of five seconds to recognize the greatness of this theatrical experience. I think I watched five or six movies at the Drafthouse before actually moving here.

On one my many visits to the South Lamar theater in 2008, I noticed a blurb in the monthly guide advertising something called Fantastic Fest. »
