The main event between Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano is the first match in WWE history that has broken Dave Meltzer's 5 star scoring system. He gave it *****1/2 (5.5/5 stars).
Although this Takeover took place in Barclays Center in Brooklyn (where four previous Takeovers have taken place), they chose to call this one "Takeover: New York" to differentiate from the ones named "Takeover: Brooklyn", which has been synonymous with the weekend of SummerSlam.
Johnny Gargano's victory for the NXT Championship made him the first ever NXT Triple Crown champion.
About 18 minutes into the event, a large cheer erupted from the crowd for what seemed to be nothing. This was actually to cheer the fact some of the house lights in the upper bowl of the Barclays Center finally turned off after they didn't go off initially when the rest were shut off to start the show.
Walter may have inadvertently saved Pete Dunne's life or from being seriously injured during the match. When Dunne went for a second running back flip off the top turnbuckle, he slipped and would have likely fallen on his head, but Walter just happened to be there for him to roll off of.
