  • Ronnie's concerns about Animal Welfare have become an obsession, with her room filled with posters. At the bus stop, Ronnie and Calley get chatting to St. Mary's girls and Ronnie is horrified to learn that at their school, they cut up rats in Biology. Neil Timpson gets laughed at for his poor throwing skills, but he has revenge planned using his video nasty - he puts the case on the table next to Mirs. Monroe, and the video itself in Jacko's bag. When Mrs. Monroe starts bag checking, a diversion allows Jacko time to realize what's happened, and tacitly the class move the video back to Timpson's own bag, where it is discovered. At St. Mary's, Ronnie finds the Biology lesson, and the girls she met earlier, and hands out anti-vivisection leaflets, ignoring the irate teacher, and telling the class that they can opt out of dissection. Unfortunately, none of the girls there want to compromise their grades by supporting her stand, and she leaves, frustrated by their inaction. In the high street, she stares at the windows of the Butchers, and the shops selling leather purses. At the card games, Mauler takes yet another loss in bad spirits. The others are dismissive of his financial situation, so he steals Mr. Griffiths's photo from the shelf (which is in fact Mr. Hargreaves's photo frame, due to previous machinations with Tegs and Matthew). Mr. Griffiths discovers his photo has gone... at the same time as Mauler enters the local antique shop. Miss Booth goes to see Mr. Hargreaves about getting some money to set up T-shirt printing. She explains that they will make it into a profitable venture, but he comes back to her wanting the whole school to see the profit rather than just the Art Department. In a fury, she draws a cruel caricature of the Deputy Head. At the end of the school day, Mrs. Monroe sits in a detention class with Neil Timpson, and Ronnie walks as if in a daze around the school. She finds her anti-cruelty poster has been defaced - its potent words made light by a smiley face. Mrs. McClusky finds her standing alone, and presses her to divulge her feelings. She explains that she feels she can do nothing to really help the cause, and she breaks down in tears on McClusky's shoulder.
