Like many of my fellow Fango Family bloggers, I've decided that it's time to talk about one of my other "crafts." Back when I blogged regularly on my MySpace page, I had a tradition of blogging about my various creative endeavors, especially the auditions that I'd have while wearing my "actor" hat. The fun ones to write about were usually "the one's that got away" (like the Larry the Cable Guy film Witless Protection), as they usually had a good story to go with them.
With that, I've decided to resurrect my tradition right here on my Fangoria.com blog.
Last year, long before I ever had a clue that I'd be working for Fango, I started receiving cryptic packages in the mail. All of them bore interesting symbols and codes, and it began with a letter that arrived on May 22, 2008. I had no idea what the letter meant, and

The night before the Academy Awards, another ceremony served as a worthy prelude. No, not the Spirit Awards — that show is far too classy. This awards show selected the worst of the worst for a Golden Raspberry Award. The big “winner” was a familiar, um, face.
Paris Hilton tied the record for the most awards, scoring worst actress for The Hottie and the Nottie, worst supporting actress for Repo! The Genetic Opera and worst on-screen couple for her pairing with either Christine Lakin or Joel David Moore in Hottie.
Sadly, I missed Hilton’s tours de farce, but the Razzie Awards have my respect based on her fellow nominees for worst supporting actress:
Carmen Electra — Disaster Move and Meet the Spartans
Kim Kardashian — Disaster Movie
Jenny McCarthy — Witless Protection
Leelee Sobieski — 88 Minutes and In the Name of the King
I saw 88 Minutes. It took me a week to get the smell out of my clothes.

Mike Myers, Uwe Boll, and Paris Hilton swept almost every award at the 2009 Razzie Awards, the ceremony recognizing the worst in movies.
The voters selected The Love Guru as the absolute worst movie of last year, beating out a particularly awful category including M. Night Shyamalan’s latest waste of time, The Happening. Myers also “won” for screenplay and actor.
Paris Hilton’s three Razzies tied for most individual awards with last year’s Eddie Murphy sweep.
Uwe Boll received the award for career achievement since he’s never made a good movie ever. He also picked up a Razzie for “Worst Director.”
Check out the full list of Razzie “winners” below:
Worst Picture
Disaster Movie & Meet the Spartans (double nominee from the same writer-directors)

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale

The Oscars attempt (emphasis on the word, “attempt”) to recognize cinemas greatest achievements each year. The Razzies, on the other hand, recognize cinema’s greatest underachievements each year.
After seeing the nominees for this year’s Razzie Awards, I’m beginning to think that the Razzie judges need to be given jobs on the Oscar selection committee. Maybe then the Oscar noms would be a little bit more spot-on.
Here are the 2008 Razzie Award nominees for your viewing displeasure.
Worst Picture
Disaster Movie & Meet The Spartans (Two bad movies, one tired-ass concept) The Happening (Ouch, M. Night that’s gotta hurt!) The Hottie and The Nottie In The Name of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale The Love Guru (Like no one saw that one coming.) Worst Actor
Larry The Cable Guy, Witless Protection Eddie Murphy, Meet Dave Mike Myers, The Love Guru Al Pacino, 88 Minutes & Righteous Kill (double ouch!

The Razzie nominations were announced today, in keeping with the tradition of falling just before the Academy Awards whenever it matters. As you probably know, these aren't the awards you really go for if you're in the movie business, since they highlight the worst of the worst.
The big "winners" appear to be The Love Guru, Uwe Boll, and Paris Hilton. Mike Myers' atrocity is up for seven Golden Raspberries, while Hilton pulled the Kate Winslet, receiving nominations for Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress. Well done! Uwe Boll, in addition to taking home the career achievement award, picked up three other additional nominations, as did his films, effectively tying him with Myers for inflicting the most pain on moviegoers in 2008.
A few weeks ago, we had the Razzies shortlist, and now they've culled that list down, scraping through the bottom of the barrel. Here are the official nominees:

When the Razzie Awards nominations were announced this morning, it was obvious that voters are really smitten with Mike Myers' "The Love Guru" — it leads with the most nominations (seven), including a worst picture bid. Mike Myers, up for worst actor and screenplay as well as one for producing the picture, was previously in the Razzies race five years ago for "Cat in the Hat," but was underwhelmed by the Ben Affleck-Jennifer Lopez mismatch "Gigli."
In second place with six Razzie bids, including a worst picture nod, is the combo of "Disaster Movie" and "Meet the Spartans," which are grouped together because they're "two films from the same two talent-free writer/directors, both featuring essentially the same cast," says the Razzie press release.
By comparison, it looks like Paris Hilton's "The Hottie & the Nottie" was robbed! It only has five nominations despite being ranked by IMDb

There are no surprises in the announcement for this years Razzies. Repeat offenders include Mike Myers' truly appalling The Love Guru, which garnered seven noms and anything involving German game-to-movie impressario Uwe Boll, who had eight.Held on February 21 (the night before the Oscars - although undoubtedly there will be no crossover of attendees), this is the 29th annual Golden Rasberries. The full list of nominations includes:Worst Picture* Disaster Movie and Meet The Spartans * The Happening* The Hottie and The Nottie* In The Name of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale* The Love GuruWorst Actor* Larry the Cable Guy, Witless Protection* Eddie Murphy, Meet Dave* Mike Myers, The Love Guru* Al Pacino, 88 Minutes and Righteous Kill* Mark Wahlberg, The Happening and Max Payne Worst Actress* Jessica Alba, The Eye and The Love Guru* Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Meg Ryan, The Women* Cameron Diaz, What Happens In Vegas* Paris Hilton,

The Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) are a time honored tradition of non-excellence recognizing the worst movies had to offer last year. In 2009, the 29th annual ceremony will be held on February 21, 2009, the traditional day before the Oscars are awarded.
Last year the big “winner” was Lindsay Lohan’s I Know Who Killed Me with a record-breaking eight Razzies.
This year the Razzies are recognizing not just the lack of any discernible talent, but people sick of the repeat awful offenders. Mike Myers, M. Night Shyamalan, Paris Hilton, Uwe Boll, Eddie Murphy, and the spoof movies.
Mike Myer’s The Love Guru lead the garbage with seven nominations including “Worst Picture.” It will compete with the actual worst movie of the year (in my opinion) The Happening. It picked up four nominations, including “Worst Actor” for Mark Wahlberg (also nominated for Max Payne).
Here is your total list of nominees:

Update: Apparently this is a list or "suggestions" and the nominees will be announced later this year. Do not take these to be official nominations. The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced their nominees for th 2009 Razzie Awards and yet again you can spot the not-so-subtle attempts at humor and the obvious nature of the entire list. The best part of the whole thing is that the way these awards are decided are based on member votes, which means people actually spend - at a minimum - $20 to submit votes and say films such as Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans weren't any good. I wonder, did these people actually go spend money on these movies or are they voting purely on the idea that these movies must be bad? Because if they actually paid to see all of these movies that may be as sad as the award show itself.

I love The Razzies. I love that there's complete balance with the good films and the bad films, or at least, what we're supposed to value as the good films and devalue as the bad ones. I love that the ceremony is the day before the Oscars, and I love that Halle Berry showed up to collect the awards for Catwoman. She's a bit loony, that one, but I gained a lot of respect for her because she was willing to bite the bullet and make fun of herself.
Here are the official nominees for the 29th annual Razzies:
Worst Picture:
Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans
The Hottie & The Nottie
Dungeon Siege
Postal
The happening
Worst Actor:
Larry the Cable Guy
Al Pacino
