Vision Point is on the same Resfest DVD as the short film 11:11. Now I won't be too harsh to the latter (because I have been in the review of it already) but the two films have in common that they are footage of a journey shot from a moving vehicle. With 11:11 the effect was dull and pretentious like students trying to be smart and failing but with Vision Point it is dizzyingly effective. Without wasting time delivering an arty script or "message" this film is all about the technical skill behind the visuals.
The journey is animated in jump cuts close enough to link the pictures but far enough to make it jump. More impressive are bits where we move around mountain ranges etc where the foreground changes slightly and the object remains static. It is hard to describe (as if you haven't already realised that) but it is impressive in how it flows. The thumping score works really well with the motion and it makes for a strong short piece of animation. No pretentious nonsense to spoil it, this is an engaging and enjoyable short film that will appeal to animation fans as well as the casual viewer.
