- Filmed in Silvercup Studios in Queens - the same studio space as in the original HBO series.
- The film originally was slated for production shortly after the end of the TV series in 2004. But production was halted when Kim Cattrall pulled out of the film after being unable to reach a salary agreement with HBO. An agreement was finally reached in 2007 which included a series deal for Cattrall.

- The time-line of the film spans a year.
- Michael Patrick King admitted in an interview to filming major scenes outside that never actually take place in the film and were ever meant to in order to throw the paparazzi off. Also due to the presence of the paparazzi and media, several exterior scenes had to be filmed indoors.
- The movie was released ten years after the series first aired and four years after the series ended.
- The tutu outfit that Carrie models for the girls is the same outfit she wears on the HBO show's opening credits.
- Shot in 69 days.
- To keep the plot a secret during the shoot, Sarah Jessica Parker put a fake cover, titled National Park by Jesse Lasky, on her copy to keep off prying eyes.
- There was a vintage belt that Carrie wore so often that the costume department nicknamed it "Roger". Costume designer Patricia Field had to tell Sarah Jessica Parker to take it off because she was wearing it too much. She wears it in the following scene - Carrie and Big find their dream apartment, Carrie telling Charlotte and Miranda that she is getting married, Carrie goes to the Vogue meeting, Carrie and Miranda go Halloween costume shopping, and when Carrie and Miranda go to dinner on Valentine's Day.
- The Vogue fashion shoot is the only scene in the movie that isn't fashion directed by Patricia Field.
- According to Patricia Field, the flower ring that Smith buys for Samantha is worth approximately $50,000.
- For the Vogue fashion shoot, the real Vogue team were used. They are- -Photographer- Patrick Demarchelier -Hairstylist- Serge Normant -Makeup artist- Gucci Westman -Prop stylist- Mary Howard -West Coast editor- Lauren Howell -Contributing editor- Plum Sykes -Editor at large- André Leon Talley (also coached Sarah Jessica Parker on how to pose authentically).
- In the scene when Carrie and Big are reading in bed, Patricia Field had initially dressed Sarah Jessica Parker in a t-shirt and leggings. However, Michael Patrick King was concerned they looked too comfortable. He said it was important to show the contrast between Steve and Miranda who weren't having sex, and Carrie and Big who were.
- For the scene in the auction, Michael Patrick King originally wanted a paddle with 69 on it. However, as this was not available, 969 had to be used instead.
- In the scene when Carrie is returning some books to the library, Sarah Jessica Parker is not wearing any mascara. Also in this scene, she is carrying a hat which she never wears as it was actually too small to fit on her head.
- The pen that is tucked in Carrie's dress in the scene when she shows Charlotte and Anthony her label-less vintage suit is the same pen that she always used in the series (a pilot varsity disposable fountain pen).

- The main love letter referenced: Ludwig Van Beethoven to his 'Immortal Beloved' / Letter 1 / Good morning, on July 7 // My thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved / I can live only wholly with you or not at all - / Be calm my life, my all. - During the scene where Carrie and the girls are going through all her clothes and Carrie flips through a handful of old record albums, the album in the purple sleeve seen so prominently is Duran Duran's 1982 album "Rio".
- The cab driver in the scene where Miranda begs Carrie to forgive her is the same cab driver in the episode where the four girls are trying to discuss if Charlotte should have anal sex with her boyfriend.
- This may be the first movie to feature the iPhone as a prop: Carrie needs to call Big, so a friend hands her the Apple cellphone, but she is flabbergasted by the multitude of non-phone buttons and tosses it aside.
- When Samantha arrives to help the girls pack Carrie's apartment, Carries walks out of the closet with a pink dress held behind her. This is the dress that she is wearing in episode 19 of season 6 when she tells Big that she is moving to Paris with Petrovsky and tells him to forget she ever existed.
- At one point in the film, Charlotte says, "I always knew she [Carrie] would marry Big." This is a reference to the TV show as Charlotte stated in episode 4.18 that she always thought Carrie and Big would marry, and Miranda thought Carrie and Aiden would marry.
- Carrie has the same cell phone as she did in the series. But, to show how much time had passed, the producers added tape to it to make it seem worn.
- After Valentine's Day, when Carrie and Miranda are in the taxi, Miranda says 'You have to forgive me.' This is link back to the series when Carrie begs Aiden to forgive her affair with Big and repeats this line numerous times.
- When the girls are eating in Mexico they repeat the same dialogue about blow jobs as in the episode "Sex and the City: The Monogamists (#1.7)" (1998).
- In Samantha's LA office, there are two Golden Globes, presumably ones that Smith has won. They are in fact the Golden Globes they won for the series belonging to John P. Melfi. Michael Patrick King would have used his own, but they were back in New York, and he didn't know how to get them on a plane.
- When Carrie is trying to figure out the password to access the email filter Louise set up, Carrie guesses it when she knocks her mail and Louise's key-chain off her desk. This should have been unnecessary: slow motion of the scene shows that Louise had set a password reminder to show on the screen, that read "Remember the key-chain."
- The book Love Letters of Great Men, which Carrie borrows from the library, did not exist at the time of the film's release.
